Zelda: Breath of the Wild's Most Efficient Path To Beat Ganon

Upon waking up in the Shrine of Resurrection in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Link discovers he is Hyrule's last hope to rid the land of Calamity Ganon. However, doing so is no simple task, and there are certain activities that must be completed before players can hope to take him on.

A large portion of Breath of the Wild's narrative revolves around the Divine Beasts, but they can be ignored entirely by players looking for a quicker playthrough. One of BOTW's biggest draws is the freedom players get to choose their heroic path, and the ability to complete the game in any way they can imagine. It is possible to get to Hyrule Castle and defeat Ganon much quicker than following the main story allows.

It's not necessary to complete most quests in Breath of the Wild in order to beat Ganon, but there are a few things that help make the fight easier to access and win. Having specific gear, such as a piece of the Zora Armor, and a few good weapons can let players reach and defeat Ganon without completing almost any other part of the game. However, the first four shrines will still need to be done in order to leave the Great Plateau.

Beating Breath of the Wild with Glitches

To reach Ganon faster in BOTW with glitches, players will need to complete the tutorial area, the Great Plateau, by visiting all four shrines. This is the only way to leave the Great Plateau where Link starts the game, so it's unavoidable. There are methods used by speedrunners that will glitch the player into the shrine, giving them the option to ignore activating the tower, but the shrines still need to be completed.

To skip the tower, players can use the shield clip, or shield skew, to glitch through walls and enter the shrines. This glitch can be performed by using shield surf on a slanted surface, then unequipping the shield in midair. When Link does this again at a wall, his position from the slanted surface will be saved, and he will glitch through the wall when the shield is unequipped. Once all four are completed, players can head to the Temple of Time to get a fourth heart and the Paraglider, and then Link can leave the Great Plateau.

Since Breath of the Wild is an open-world game, and players can choose to complete or ignore any quest, there are many paths that will lead to defeating Ganon. The best speedrunners use the bullet time bounce glitch to traverse Hyrule and get to the castle right away. To perform this, players need to be above an enemy on a small cliff or structure, then hold down the block button, shield surf at the enemy, and enter bullet time by aiming the bow. When the shield hits the enemy, it will launch Link into the air, which lets him easily reach Hyrule Castle while avoiding the Guardians lurking around outside. This glitch will need to be performed several times to reach the castle.

Once inside, players need to collect some weapons and supplies before facing Ganon. Collecting arrows, bows, and weapons, like the Lizal Tri-Boomerang, is essential to winning the battle. During the boss fight, players will need to use Link's charged swing attack to deal maximum damage to each form of Ganon. The Windblight Ganon can be beaten with one arrow if players shoot the area where he spawns just before the cutscene triggers. This will cause him to take damage throughout the cutscene, and he will instantly be defeated.

The rest of the bosses should be taken care of in any way possible; using bomb arrows and swing attacks work well. For Dark Beast Ganon, Link will be given light arrows, and players can shoot at Ganon's weak points. Defeating the last form of Ganon will complete the game. This method can be done in 25-45 minutes depending on players' skill level and familiarity with glitches.

Beating Breath of the Wild Without Glitches

If players want an authentic, glitch-free playthrough of BOTW, there are still ways they can reach Ganon fairly quickly. The beginning of the game will be the same, except the tower will need to be activated to enter the shrines. Once players leave the Great Plateau, they should head to Zora's Domain. To bypass fighting through Hyrule Castle, players will need a piece of the Zora Armor. They can either reach Zora's Domain for the Zora Chest Armor or go past Zora's Domain and further north to Toto Lake for the Zora Helm.

With one piece of the Zora Armor, players will be able to use the series of waterfalls just to the west of Hyrule Castle. The waterfall system leads straight to the Sanctum, so players should gear up before going to the castle. Fighting will be the same as beating the game with glitches, except players will need to actually defeat Windblight Ganon instead of using the arrow trick.

Alternatively, players can take some time to gather armor, find stronger weapons, and complete a few shrines in order to have more health or stamina before facing Ganon. The Divine Beasts are also an option for players who want additional abilities like the Mipha's Grace healing ability. However, the only necessary steps for beating the game are listed above. Having the ability to choose an adventure is one of the biggest appeals of Breath of the Wild, and players have many options to explore to reach the final battle with Ganon efficiently.
