Bollywood: Venom 2 Director Discusses Whether or Not [SPOILER] is Really Dead

Warning! SPOILERS ahead for Venom: Let There Be Carnage.

Andy Serkis, director of the recently released Venom: Let There Be Carnage, discusses if Carnage (played by Woody Harrelson) is truly dead or not. The first Venom released on October 5, 2018. While it was not well-received by critics, the audience reception was much kinder. It also had a stellar box office run, bringing in $855 million worldwide. Only a few months after its release a sequel, Let There Be Carnage, was announced. While the film's release date has been shifted around multiple times due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, it finally released in North America on October 1.

Venom: Let There Be Carnage takes place a year after the events of the first movie. It follows Tom Hardy's Eddie Brock dealing with the job of being the host for Venom, an alien symbiote. Meanwhile, there is a serial killer, Cletus Kasady, that Brock ends up interviewing, which leads to Kasady getting some symbiote inside of him. Kasady ends up becoming the host for Carnage and escapes prison. Eddie/Venom have to stop Carnage and Kasady's girlfriend, Frances Barrison/Shriek, another symbiote (played by Naomie Harris). The movie also stars Michelle Williams, Reid Scott, Stephen Graham, and Peggy Lu.

Now, director Andy Serkis has talked about the end of the movie where Venom kills Carnage, which could be a surprise for some Marvel fans. In an interview with Brandon Davis on the Phase Zero podcast (via ComicBook.com), Serkis comments on Carnage's fate. Check out what he has to say below:

"It's not easy. I mean, the fact of the matter is I always like to think there might just be that little bit of symbiote that didn't quite get devoured by Venom and that could be hanging around in some baptismal font in the church, that's just sort of swimming around that could somehow come back to life. I always say, no one ever dies, really."

Carnage is a very important villain in the Spider-Man universe, so it might come as a surprise that Let There Be Carnage has him die. Many villains in superhero movies typically seem to die after one appearance, so it could just be following that trend. Serkis also says that he believes that no one is ever really dead, so with the popularity of this movie, there is certainly a chance of seeing a bit of Carnage alive to mark his return. Additionally, Venom could possibly be entering the MCU or Tom Holland's Spider-Man could enter Sony's Spider-Man Universe. This could mean that there is a chance that Carnage could return through the multiverse events that are seemingly going to bring these universes together.

Whether or not Carnage comes back, Sony definitely has plans for the future of their Spider-Man characters. It is an exciting time to be a Marvel fan, as they are seemingly going to connect as many properties as they can. Fans can see Carnage in Venom: Let There Be Carnage, which is now playing in theaters.
