Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl: What April O'Neil's Moveset Is

Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl is set to be a new fighting game a la Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, peppered with beloved characters from the television network, including April O'Neil, who had her moveset revealed. Several notable faces include SpongeBob Squarepants, Patrick Star, Aang, Korra, CatDog and Reptar, among others. Each character's attacks are tailored to their personality; for example, SpongeBob is shown blowing bubbles at opponents. From the gameplay trailers that have been released so far, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' April O'Neil has some devastating attacks in Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl, and will be a journalistic force to be reckoned with.

Gameplay in Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl is broken down into three types of attack: up, neutral, and down. Each of those can then be used in light, strong, or special levels, or can be performed in the air. This alone distinguishes the game from its Super Smash Bros. counterpart, but Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl takes it one step further.

On Sept. 21, Polygon premiered an exclusive look at April O'Neil in Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl is. Her character art is inspired by the 1987 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon, and is wielding all equipment a journalist might need on their way into battle. In the cartoons, April O'Neil is a journalist with a penchant for getting kidnapped, but Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl gameplay trailers shows she'll be a fierce competitor.

April O'Neil's light moveset in Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl consist primarily of attacks using her microphone or simple kick moves, while her strong moves upgrade to using her boom mic, notepad and photo camera. Meanwhile, her special attacks showcase a floating blimp and film camera, and her neutral special unlocks her special ratings ability. Any of April's attacks that have a flashing camera will help her accumulate points on a ratings meter, indicated by stars floating around her microphone. She can then use these ratings to deal extra damage in her neutral special, a unique feature that gives her a different flair from other characters. April's stage is called Rooftop Rumble, a city rooftop with a water tower platform and the Channel 6 building in the background.
