With a recent Hulu documentary putting Tom Girardi's legal woes on full display, The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills fans are wondering how his shady business dealings went unnoticed for so long. Tom is under public scrutiny along with his wife, Erika Girardi. As he battles it out in court, the California Bar is explaining how all of these serious ‘mistakes’ went under the radar for decades.
Hulu's The Housewife and the Hustler has brought new attention to the numerous lawsuits Tom, and Erika Girardi are facing. The Bravo star filed for divorce from the disgraced lawyer last November. But that did not put her in the clear from all the illegal activity Tom is being accused of. Many fans believe that Erika was fully aware of how much money her husband was stealing from his clients and the banks. With him being such a high-profile attorney, many people are confused at how his shady practices were not caught sooner.
Following the revealing documentary, many viewers wondered how Tom got away with stealing millions from his clients while remaining a highly regarded lawyer. Last week, the State Bar of California admitted that its investigators mishandled years of complaints against Tom, LA Times reports. The Board of Trustees conducted an internal audit of Tom's file at the bar that “revealed mistakes made in some investigations over the many decades of Mr. Girardi’s career going back some 40 years and spanning the tenure of many Chief Trial Counsels.”
An outside consultant conducted the audit and “identified significant issues” in the “investigation and evaluation of high-dollar, high volume trust accounts,” the bar said. Back in March, an LA Times investigation found that Tom had been building very close relationships with bar employees by treating them to lavish wine-soaked lunches at Morton’s, casino parties in Las Vegas, and luxurious getaways on private jets. When considering the audit findings and Erika's life of luxury, it is highly likely that his wife was not the only one Tom was spending money on.
He is being accused of stealing millions from his clients and defaulting on loans from banks like Wells Fargo. Erika has also been named in a few of the lawsuits and is accused of helping Tom spend all of the money. But if there are even bar employees who were in cahoots with Tom, there could be a long list of people that could, unfortunately, be going down with the disgraced legal titan. Erika is pleading her innocence and even trying to present herself as one of Tom's victims. While time will tell if she is innocent or not, many think the RHOBH star is just as guilty as her estranged husband.
