Being a medieval city builder, Going Medieval will have players building castles and bustling settlements as they attempt to build a successful colony. In addition to dealing with threats like bandits and climate conditions, players will be expected to cater to the needs of their settlers as they manage resources and plan out future construction projects.
The building in this game can be surprisingly in-depth, and over the course of the game, players will find themselves taking into consideration several factors before they begin construction. These factors can include temperature, cover, support, and expenditure of resources. This is why some beginner players may become confused when a roof is not immediately available to be constructed. Below is a quick guide on how to build one.
The most important thing to remember about roofs is that there is an important prerequisite that has to be met before it can be built. Walls. To get access to valid roof positioning, players will first need to lay down some walls to act as support for it. They don’t need to be physical walls, but at the very least players need to lay down some blueprints.
Laying down three, sometimes four, walls tend to do the trick. It depends on just how much roof the player intends to build. But if the structure looks like it could reliably support a roof, it generally can. Just access the building menu and select the roof button. From there, players can choose what type of roof they would like the use. Most prefer to use wicker roofs on account of how easy it is to collect sticks, but players in more mountainous areas may prefer to use the limestone variant.
But the material of the roof doesn’t have to matter all that much. What matters is that there is a roof at all. The roof provides coverage for everything underneath it, and this can translate to a variety of effects depending on what is placed in the building itself. Have NPCs sleeping in it? Because the roof protects them from external weather conditions, the villagers are going to be happier and more productive. Storing supplies? The roof ensures they are not ruined early due to rain. Using the area for production? The roof will likely enable all production buildings to operate at a higher level of efficiency. With all of the benefits roofs give, players should always ensure that every used building has one.
