The Vampire Diaries: 10 Spinoffs Fans Would Love To See

When The Vampire Diaries first arrived on the CW's airwaves, many mistook the series as nothing more than an attempt to capitalize on the overwhelming success of The Twilight Saga. But more than a decade after TVD's debut and with two successful spinoffs (The Originals and Legacies) under its belt, the show is clearly one of the biggest successes in recent television history.

And while The Vampire Diaries, The Originals, and Legacies have all offered a great deal of insight into this fictional supernatural world, the TVD universe is still brimming with potential. What possible spinoffs would fans of The Vampire Diaries really love to see?

10 The History Of The Bennett Witches

Bonnie Bennett is obviously a vital part of The Vampire Diaries, but the Bennett witch bloodline has been a driving force behind so much that has happened throughout supernatural history as well.

Qetsiyah created the Other Side and magical immortality itself, and Ayanna's knowledge is what enabled Esther to create the Originals and thus the entire vampire species. Emily and Sheila had an enormous impact on the contemporary storyline, and obviously, Bonnie saved Mystic Falls nearly a dozen times over and completely altered the supernatural world. There's limitless spinoff potential with the super-powerful Bennett witches.

9 The Saltzman Family's Lives Between The Vampire Diaries And Legacies

Caroline and Alaric were key characters in The Vampire Diaries, and now their daughters (and Gemini witches) Lizzie and Josie are the main protagonists on Legacies. And while the mother show did offer a few insights into the lives of the Forbes-Saltzman family, it would be very intriguing to see how the whole squad evolved from one series to the other.

It would be nice to bridge the gap from The Vampire Diaries to its current spinoff, and a show that takes place during this time period could answer a lot of questions that fans still have about what was happening to the entire cast of TVD in the era.

8 A Katherine Pierce Prequel

One of TVD's greatest strengths was its fantastic villains. From beginning to end, many of the antagonists became fan favorites, and the first big bad of the series might also be one of the best.

Katherine Pierce was the beloved dark mirror of Elena Gilbert, and luckily The Vampire Diaries did show a great deal of Katherine's evolution as a character. However, she was still just a villainous supporting player, so a great deal of her personal history remained unexplored. Considering that she managed to survive on the run for 500 years, it seems obvious that her story would make a fascinating prequel series.

7 Tyler Lockwood As A Werewolf Alpha

The Vampire Diaries has a huge ensemble cast, and each season typically has an overarching storyline that involves everyone. But the nature of that setup also means that the potential of many supporting characters winds up being stifled for the sake of greater storytelling, and Tyler Lockwood is a prime example of that.

Much like Caroline and her vampirism, Tyler was a rare supernatural creature who actually seemed to become a better person after becoming a werewolf. He was a natural leader among wolves and hybrids, and it would be exciting to see a spinoff series that allows him to fulfill his potential as an alpha.

6 The History Of Mystic Falls

Mystic Falls almost feels like a character in The Vampire Diaries rather than a setting. Given that this tiny Virginia town has seemingly been a hub of supernatural activity for over a thousand years, it'd be neat to see a full exploration of that.

The development of the Founder's Council is one spinoff concept that could be very compelling, or a series set in the era of the Mikaelson family has a lot of promise as well. It's clear that there is something supernatural about this particular locale though, and fans would undoubtedly love to see an explanation for what makes Mystic Falls so special.

5 The Gemini Coven Origin Story

There seem to be endless oddities in the supernatural world that is home to The Vampire Diaries and its sister shows, but one of the most unique concepts is the Gemini Coven.

This group of extraordinarily powerful witches seemingly gains a great deal of their power through the Merge, a ritual where one twin steals the power and life force of the other. This particular quirk is extremely unusual, and considering that their group has existed for at least two thousand years, it seems like there are a lot of narrative possibilities that could be explored with the Geminis.

4 A Period Piece Originals Spinoff

Perhaps fans of The Vampire Diaries feel like the Mikaelson family have gotten their due, as they already got a lot of attention on TVD before they left for their own spinoff, The Originals.

However, The Originals mostly focused on a contemporary storyline, and now that Legacies has become the flagship of The Vampire Diaries universe, it almost feels as if The Originals was just Hope Mikaelson's origin story. The Mikaelsons existed for a thousand years before The Originals began though, and the show barely scratched the surface of their real potential. A period drama focusing on the Originals through time would be a fascinating foundation for a TV series.

3 The Mystic Falls Gang's Post-Finale Life

It's lovely that pretty much every character who survived to the end of The Vampire Diaries got a relatively happy ending, but considering the (sometimes unsatisfactory) resolution that The Vampire Diaries finale offered up, it seems safe to say that most fans would love to see a continuation of the original show.

While many of the titular vampires in The Vampire Diaries were either dead or human in the end, seeing Damon and Elena live their human lives and seeing what Mystic Falls became after the supernatural drama was over would undoubtedly thrill TVD's audience.

2 Damon's Journey From Mystic Falls In 1864 To The Present

Obviously, there wasn't a dearth of flashbacks exploring Damon Salvatore's experiences between his human life in the 1860s and his vampire life in the current timeline. But The Vampire Diaries really only explored Damon's greatest hits.

Yes, the show offered some insights into Damon's past when it came to game-changing encounters or moments of his past that were impacting the storyline of the moment. But Damon still has well over a century of history that TVD fans know almost nothing about, and those are undoubtedly tales that fans would be eager to see for themselves.

1 Stefan's Journey From Mystic Falls In 1864 To The Present

While Damon Salvatore is arguably the most popular character in the Vampire Diaries universe, Stefan isn't too far behind. But even more than that, his character development and his life as an on-then-off the wagon Ripper seemingly has even more potential than a Damon-centric spinoff.

Many of his wildest exploits were shown in flashbacks, and even more of Stefan's most terrifying moments were merely mentioned. But it would undoubtedly be a thrill to actually get to see both sides of Stefan evolve over the course of his preternaturally long life.
