The Arrowverse Reveals That Argus Has A Superman Prison Cell

The Arrowverse reveals ARGUS has a Superman prison cell in Superman & Lois. David Ramsey has been busy visiting all of the superhero shows throughout the Arrowverse, reprising his role as John Diggle in The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, and Batwoman. His latest appearance in Superman & Lois put him in a rather sensitive and dangerous situation that ultimately revealed ARGUS has some pretty advanced tech that could easily hold an all-powerful Kryptonian.

Superman & Lois has been raising the stakes over the course of season 1 and things took a deadly turn after Morgan Edge — Clark Kent’s half-brother from Krypton — successfully convinced the Man of Steel to join him or risk his family being killed. In season 1’s episode 12, called “Through the Valley of Death,” Superman grappled with his good and bad side as Morgan Edge pulled General Zod’s consciousness into the Man of Steel’s. Superman was able to break free from Zod’s control, apprehending Edge and sending him into the custody of General Lane. Edge is just as powerful as Superman, but rather than kill the villain, he was locked inside a Kryptonite-powered cell where he wouldn’t be able to hurt anyone anymore.

While Lane called upon ARGUS for help in delivering tech that would complete a weapon strong enough to kill Superman, the Kryptonite cell suggests that it’s not only the Department of Defense and General Lane who have prepared themselves for an evil Superman. It seems ARGUS has also been building tech and other devices that could harm or prevent Superman and other Kryptonians from being a danger to the human race. The agency had the cell ready for use as though they had already known they’d have to use it one day. That ARGUS has both the Kryptonite cell and a piece of tech that could be modified to kill Superman reveals they’ve had plans in place in case Superman, and maybe others like him, did ever go rogue. Diggle and General Lane clearly know each other so it’s not impossible to assume there was some overlap between DOD and ARGUS with regards to planning for potential Kryptonian attacks.

ARGUS, despite being helpful to the superheroes in the Arrowverse, has long had a mission to prevent damage and chaos through research and technology. Considering Supergirl and Superman’s presence on Earth has introduced a plethora of antagonistic Kryptonians, it’s no surprise ARGUS has created Kryptonite-laced devices for those like Morgan Edge. This specific prison cell could have been made back when Red Daughter, a copy of Kara Danvers, attacked on Lex Luthor’s orders in Supergirl season 4. But regardless of when ARGUS began its work on the Kryptonite-powered cell, it’s clear they’ve been anticipating using it at some point in the future.

Superman & Lois teased an evil version of the Man of Steel, with John Henry Irons and General Lane wanting to take extreme action by killing him. It’s rather interesting then that, when finally having Morgan Edge in custody, he’s merely imprisoned inside a Kryptonite-powered cell. So it seems while ARGUS has gadgets, tech, and prison boxes at the ready, the agency — at least under the direction of Lyla and Diggle — is not so quick to kill someone despite their immense and deadly power.
