Ubisoft Teases New Tom Clancy Game To Be Revealed Tomorrow

A brand-new entry in the Tom Clancy series of games is on its way, according to a recent Tweet from Ubisoft. The hype-boosting message teased a new reveal coming on Monday, July 19. This new game could be a completely original addition to this long-running series of games, rather than another sequel or spin-off like Rainbow Six Extraction, which was recently delayed to 2022.

The Tom Clancy series of video games, developed and published primarily by Ubisoft, has spawned dozens of entries over the years. These games mostly center around military tactics, espionage, and advanced warfare. More recent releases like Rainbow Six Siege, Ghost Recon Breakpointand The Division have focused heavily on multiplayer features, allowing players to join forces with their friends to take down the enemy. Other titles, like the Splinter Cell line, featured tight single-player, story-driven experiences. Most of these games, especially under Ubisoft's control, have been incredibly successful among fans and critics alike. Even during Ubisoft's most controversial moments, the Tom Clancy games have generally been able to perform at or above expectations, making them a consistently safe choice when it comes to production.

On July 18, Ubisoft took to Twitter to announce a "brand-new game in the Tom Clancy Universe" with a short teaser trailer. The four-second video appeared to be mostly standard and broad-strokes imagery for promotional materials of this sort, featuring newspaper-esque pop art and images of real-world political figures. This style of marketing certainly helps feed social media hype, as many fans and critics will likely be spending the next 24 hours scrutinizing each frame of the video for hints, Easter eggs, and hidden details.

Some fans have speculated that this upcoming game could be the next entry in the Splinter Cell series, as it is been nearly eight years since players have seen Sam Fisher in action. However, the choice to call the upcoming release a "brand-new" game suggests that it will be an entirely separate story and cast of characters. This would be disappointing to hear for Splinter Cell fans, but could also come as a pleasant surprise for those getting tired of new Rainbow Six and The Division content, as Ubisoft has been leaning heavily into those properties over the past few years.

Whatever the new game is, it should be interesting to see how it ties into the rest of the Tom Clancy games, as well as Ubisoft's broader catalog. A new single-player story would be a welcome addition, even if that is unlikely considering Ubisoft's current trajectory and recent history with games in this universe. With the publisher shifting franchises like Assassin's Creed into live service games, it also seems unlikely that this new Tom Clancy game will be free of the microtransactions that have become ubiquitous in Ubisoft's games. Hopefully, this new release will be able to keep players engaged while maintaining its integrity.
