Legend of Zelda's Kokiri Emerald Faithfully Recreated By Jeweler

A jeweler has recreated the Kokiri Emerald from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. The gem is a custom cut with the detailing applied by hand. It's also not the first time the artist has brought the jewels of The Legend of Zelda into the real world.

During the first part of the game, Ocarina of Time tasks Link with collecting three gems from the various races across Hyrule. These Spiritual Stones are the Kokiri Emerald, Goron Ruby, and Zora Sapphire. When all three are placed in the Temple of Time and the Song of Time is performed, a door is opened. Link then gains access to the iconic Master Sword. This also acts as the trigger for the second part of the game. The Kokiri Emerald is the first of the Spiritual Stones to be collected, and is granted to Link by the Great Deku Tree after the hero kills the evil beast corrupting him from within.

It's also the first of the Stones to be recreated by jeweler and Reddit user Ryan56k. The piece is made using a peridot gem and 14k gold. Hidden behind the gem is a base to attach a chain to. While the Kokiri Emerald is fairly large in-game, this recreation is much smaller, able to be picked up with a pair of tweezers. If anything, however, it makes the level of detail all the more impressive. It should also be mentioned that the gem was a commission, costing $1800 US.

This isn't Ryan's first time recreating one of Zelda's jewels. A year prior, he posted a video to Reddit of a gemstone cut into the Triforce. In this case, the stone used was golden citrine. This was also the first time he mentioned cutting the Spiritual Stones; at the time, all three were still in the planning stage. His Etsy store page also lists a cut Rupee. The Rupee is peridot, the same as the Kokiri Emerald. While he has not officially stated if he will be making the Goron Ruby and Zora Sapphire, it seems likely.

The Legend of Zelda has an extremely creative and dedicated community. All the major titles and spin-off games have received a great deal of love from writers, artists, and musicians. However, it's not uncommon to see jewelers and metalworkers hone their craft by recreating the weapons and relics found throughout Hyrule. This Kokiri Emerald is just the latest example of this pattern. In time, the other two Spiritual Stones may be made as well. They might not be able to open the Door of Time, but they're still pretty magical to devoted fans.
