Amy Aquino's 10 Best Movie & TV Roles, According To IMDb

Though she might not be known by name to many fans of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, Amy Aquino has one of the most recognizable faces on TV, and now that she’s playing Bucky’s therapist in the hit Disney+ series, she’s about to be a lot more well known. The actress has had a huge presence on TV for the past 30 years, whether it’s in hit sitcoms or procedural police dramas.

However, more often than not, she can be seen appearing all over the place as characters with important roles, such as doctors and lawyers, which fits in with the fact that in real life, she’s a Yale alum. And now that Aquino has a serious part in Bucky’s story, it’s likely that she’s going to have an important role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe too.

10 Being Human - 7.5

Being Human is the American adaptation of the BBC series of the same name, which is a horror-comedy about a ghost, a vampire, and a werewolf who all live together.

Though it isn’t the most well-known show in the world, it’s a sleeper hit and it had the perfect home on the SyFy channel, where the premise really resonated with the channel’s viewers. Aquino plays Donna Gilchrist, a witch who works at a soup kitchen, and it’s one of her funniest roles.

9 Picket Fences - 7.7

Picket Fences is one of the stranger shows Aquino has taken part in, but she still nevertheless plays her typical role as a professional, and in this case, it’s the first of many where she plays a doctor. In what is such a fascinating amalgam of tackling religious issues with random occurrences, such as an exploding cow udder and dead people showing up in freezers, Picket Fences was a fascinatingly original show.

And given that it was a prime time show, it was one of the first of its kind to tackle deep subject matter, such as relationships and careers.

8 ER - 7.7

Of all the shows that Aquino has starred in, ER was the one that got her the most exposure by far. The hugely popular medical show ran for an incredible 15 seasons, and Aquino shockingly appeared in almost every season, albeit sporadically, making her one of the actors fans forget played a doctor on the show.

In the show, Aquino plays the head of the OB department, and most of her scenes revolve around how she is always butting heads with her staff of doctors, whether it’s due to maternity leave or the misdiagnosis of patients.

7 The Falcon And The Winter Soldier - 7.9

Though ER might have gotten her the most exposure at one point in her career, it takes second place now, as Disney+ announced that the first episode of The Falcon and the Winter Solider is their most-watched season premiere.

Aquino is even one of the first people to appear in the show, as she plays Bucky’s therapist. It’s looking like she has an imperative role in the whole show, and given how the MCU is known to keep characters in their back pocket, who knows how big of a role she’ll have in future shows and movies too.

6 Prison Break: The Final Break - 7.9

Prison Break has had a strange life span, as its initial run lasted for four seasons it then was picked up for a reunion, season years later, and it’s now trying to get a sixth season. And somewhere in the middle of it all was Prison Break: The Final Break, which was split into two parts for TV.

Though the first season was like lightning in a bottle, as the seasons that followed had a rocky and questionable narrative, The Final Break saw the show return to its roots. Aquino only joined the series in the two-part special, in which she played the evil warden of the woman’s prison that Sara was trapped in.

5 The Mentalist - 8.1

The Mentalist is just like many other procedural, occupational crime show, whether it’s House, Lie To Me, or How To Get Away With Murder in that it sees an incredibly gifted professional with a smart mouth get to the bottom of seemingly unsolvable mysteries.

The novelty of The Mentalist is that the consultant to the California Bureau of Investigation, Patrick Jane (Simon Baker), is actually a former psychic. And as it often results in court cases, the casting directors turn to the actors in Hollywood who often play these types of roles, and Aquino typically featured in a couple of episodes of the show as a judge.

4 Bosch - 8.4

Aquino’s role in Bosch might be the biggest role that the actress has ever had, as she has starred in all 60 episodes of the crime show. In the procedural crime of the week-type show, Aquino plays Lieutenant Grace Billets, and she’s a big part of why the show has been so successful, as she elevated the material with her dramatic acting.

And as the seventh and final season is in the works, Amazon has announced plans for a spin-off show, but whether or not Aquino will star is yet to be confirmed.

3 Brooklyn Bridge - 8.6

Brooklyn Bridge features Aquino’s earliest major role and she was a lead actor in the sitcom. Though the series only lasted for two seasons, it was one of the most loved shows at the time to those who knew about it, as it wasn’t like any other sitcom around at the time.

The show was based in Brooklyn in the 1950s and it often tackled heavier themes surrounding the Jewish American family and their upbringing in Poland and Russia.

2 Curb Your Enthusiasm - 8.7

Since Curb Your Enthusiasm is known to blend fiction and reality together, TV and movie stars either play themselves or fictional characters. The latter is the case for Aquino, as she’s one of the guest stars who didn’t play themselves, playing Susan Brady for a couple of episodes in the earlier seasons.

As is the case with most one-off characters in Curb, Susan ends up becoming somewhat of an enemy of Larry’s, as she and her husband constantly try to skirt away from picking up the bill at the end of dinner.

1 Freaks And Geeks - 8.8

Though it only lasted for one season, Freaks and Geeks has become a huge cult hit in the time since it was canceled, making it one of the beloved shows that were canceled too soon.

The show followed a group of outcasts in school who became a united front, and it was the first rung of the ladder for many actors now considered movie stars. Seth Rogen, Jason Segel, James Franco, and many others all got their start on Freaks and Geeks, and Aquino is part of the legacy too, as she played the teacher, Mrs. Schweiber.
