Bridgerton star Phoebe Dynevor worries season 2 filming will be delayed. The first season of the historical Regency-era romance was so popular it became Netflix's fifth-best season release of an original series. Dynevor plays Daphne Bridgerton, the eldest daughter of the Bridgerton family.

The first season of Bridgerton was Daphne's story, from her debut before Queen Charlotte to her will-they-or-won't-they romance with Simon Basset, the rakish Duke of Hastings. After some highs and lows, Daphne's story and season 1 ended on a happy note, with Daphne and the Duke rekindling their love and Daphne giving birth to a son. If future Bridgerton seasons follow the pattern of author Julia Quinn's Bridgerton family novels, season two should focus on Daphne's elder brother Anthony Bridgerton's journey to find love and a wife. (And an answer as to why Anthony always looks at his watch in season 1.) However, in the real world, the coronavirus pandemic is still ongoing, which has affected filming schedules for many television and film sets.

Dynevor expressed her excitement about the possibility of returning for season two of Bridgerton during an interview with Deadline. The actress recalled how production for the first season just barely finished back in February 2020 before the pandemic forced television and movie sets to shut down across the globe. This is what Dynevor had to say about her concerns about the logistics of filming Bridgerton season 2 during the midst of the ongoing pandemic.

"I can’t imagine how it would be possible to film under these circumstances. There are so many extras and so many crew members, and it’s a very intimate show. It just baffles me how we would film it under Covid rules unless there was a vaccine beforehand."

Dynevor's concerns about filming are completely valid. The safety of any cast and crew for any production should always remain a top priority. The UK is permitting film and television productions to continue working, as long as they adhere to strict COVID-19 safety guidelines. There is also the fact that Netflix still hasn't officially renewed Bridgerton for a second season, despite the show's immense popularity. Still, it's been reported that filming for season 2 of Bridgerton could begin this March regardless of the official renewal from Netflix.

Of course, the Bridgerton production team will have to follow COVID-19 safety guidelines should the series begin filming season 2 soon. While fans of the show are already hungry for a second season, it would be better for production to take its time and do things correctly and safely even if that means a longer wait for Bridgerton fans. In the interim fans can read The Viscount Who Loved Me, the second book in the Bridgerton family series that focuses on Anthony Bridgerton's story.

If the TV series continues to follow the books, it seems likely Bridgerton season 2 will delve more into Anthony's past like the second book does. But at this point, the future of the hit historical romance series is up in the air. Hopefully, fans will get the good news of a season 2 renewal and updates on filming soon.
