Bollywood: Hawkeye TV Show: Hailee Steinfeld Out Of The Running for Kate Bishop Role

Hailee Steinfeld is reportedly no longer in talks to play Kate Bishop in the upcoming Hawkeye TV series. The MCU is currently on an extended break after the Infinity Saga due to the coronavirus pandemic, but that doesn't mean work stops for Kevin Feige and his team. While productions are halted, development of upcoming projects continues, including Marvel Studios' slated shows for Disney+.

Confirmed during last year's San Diego Comic-Con, Hawkeye is one of the small screen projects Marvel is producing for the streaming service. No release date has been revealed thus far, but some information regarding the show has been released. It'll feature the return of Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton, and the narrative will tackle the Avengers' resident marksman's backstory. Aside from that, Hawkeye is also set to debut a contemporary iteration of the hero – Kate Bishop. Since this detail was confirmed, fans have been speculating about who might be cast in the role, with Steinfeld among the first names to be supposedly considered by Marvel.

Now, however, that doesn't seem to be the case anymore. According to The DisInsider's Derek Cornell (via CBR), Steinfeld has long walked away from the role in the Hawkeye show. Unfortunately, he didn't give any time frame or further information about what went down during her casting process. Check out his tweet below:

For the uninitiated, Kate Bishop is the daughter of a businessman who dabbles in illegal deals in the comics. Following her assault at Central Park, she took it upon herself to ensure that she would never be vulnerable again. Kate trained in martial arts and eventually assumed the name Hawkeye when Clint is presumed to be dead. The two co-starred in Matt Fraction and David Aja's Hawkeye comic book run, which is allegedly the main narrative source for Hawkeye TV series. It's still uncertain how Clint and Kate's paths cross on the small screen, however.

More recently, Hawkeye recruited Amber Finlayson and Katie Ellwood, as well as Rhys Thomas, to direct multiple episodes of the series. Given this, it's safe to say that in-house development of the project is moving along quite well. In conjunction with that, this could also be an indication that Marvel Studios is in the process of casting Kate Bishop. The MCU won't have any presence at this year's Comic-Con, which will be held virtually due to the ongoing pandemic. As a result, it might be a while before Marvel officially announce its pick for the soon-to-debut hero – assuming they've already chosen one. In any case, with Hawkeye not hitting airwaves for a while, there's no rush to make any official casting statement about the project.
