10 Movies To Watch If You Love The Good Place | ScreenRant

NBC's hit comedy The Good Place, starring Ted Danson and Kristen Bell, aired for four seasons from September 2016 to January 2020. The series deals with life and death, and more specifically, where we go once we've died. It's a hysterical look at the afterlife that had both audiences and critics hooked for the very beginning.

In 2019, the show announced that the fourth season would be its last. It's rare that a television show takes itself off the air, but the writers and creators mapped out where the show could go and realized that it could be done in four seasons and would end on a high note. Now that the series is over, here's a list of films that may help ease the withdrawal.

10 Bruce Almighty

This early 2000's comedy starring Jim Carrey is about a news anchor who, after a pretty bad day, starts yelling to the heavens and blaming God for all of his problems. God hears Bruce and decides to teach him a lesson.

God gives Bruce his powers so that Bruce can understand just how hard God works. It's a funny take on spirituality and religion and has a lot of the same quirky elements that made The Good Place so much fun to watch.

9 Frozen

Kristen Bell has really become America's sweetest sweetheart over the last ten years or so and is one of the reasons fans fell in love with The Good Place. Bell's comedic timing and her chemistry with Ted Danson make this show the success that it is.

For fans who tuned into the NBC hit comedy every week to see Bell shine, they should definitely check out the massive Disney hit, Frozenwhere Bell voices Princess Anna and also sings all of her own songs.

8 Forgetting Sarah Marshall

This is another great comedy starring Kristen Bell where she plays the title character, Sarah Marshall. Sarah, who like Kristen, is a famous television actress, has just broken up with her boyfriend for a rockstar and mustn't dodge her ex when they end up vacationing on the same Hawaiian island.

Bell is absolutely hysterical in this film and seems to use a lot of her personal experiences in the industry to play the part and get a lot of laughs.

7 Three Men And A Baby

Ted Danson had become a comedy legend over the course of his forty-five-year career and his role on The Good Place allowed him to reach a whole new generation of fans. For younger fans who aren't as familiar with Danson's earlier work and want a good laugh, Three Men and a Baby is a must-see.

In this classic, Danson plays one of three friends who find a baby on their doorstep and must grow up and learn how to care for her quickly. The father of the child turns out to be Danson's character, lady's man, and actor, Jack.

6 Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind

For fans of The Good Place who rooted for Chidi and Eleanor the entire time and love a good "will they or won't they" storyline, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, starring Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet should be next on your watchlist.

This science-fiction/love story focuses on Joel and Clementine, an estranged couple who have erased each other from their memories, yet always seem to find their way back to one another.

5 Heart And Souls

People have always been curious about the afterlife and what really happens to us once we die. The early 90's film, Heart and Souls, starring a young Robert Downey Jr. is a light-hearted take on those existential ideas. Robert Downey Jr. plays Thomas, who as a child, had four imaginary friends.

Those "imaginary" friends were actually ghosts of people who died the night Thomas was born and in order to pass on to the other side, Thomas must help his friends with some unfinished business.

4 Groundhog Day

One of the best storylines from The Good Place, is when the characters begin reliving the experiment over and over again because they keep figuring out the big twist every time.

Michael re-sets Eleanor and her friends and their "good place" every time one of them figures out they are really in the "bad place", so audiences get to see different iterations of Michael's experiment. The repetition is similar to that which plays out in the film Groundhog's Day, starring Bill Murray.

3 Casper

Everyone loves a good ghost story, but some movie-goers and television fans don't love the idea of being scared, which is why films like Casper and shows like The Good Place are so well received. Both of these productions deal with scary topics like ghosts and death, but they put a lighthearted spin on their stories that makes them enjoyable for all viewers.

Not only are both Casper and The Good Place funny and entertaining, but they also bring up great talking points when it comes to debates on the afterlife.

2 Stuck In Love

For fans who tuned into The Good Place every week to cheer on their favorite couples and see who ended up together, this film about love, loss, and getting back together, starring Greg Kinnear, Lily Collins, and Jennifer Connelly is a must for movie night.

What also makes this film perfect for The Good Place fans is that our favorite funny female, Kristen Bell has a small supporting role as one of Greg Kinnear's neighbors and temporary romantic interest.

1 Ghost

Most movie-goers remember this early 90's film as a sad love story about loss and grief, but it is so much more than that. Whoopi Goldberg delivers a lot of laughs as Oda Mae Brown, the psychic who helps Demi Moore's character, Molly, communicate with her dead husband, Sam.

This movie will make you laugh as much as it makes you cry and delivers another thought-provoking take on death and the afterlife.
