Post-Tropical Cyclone Fiona made landfall in Nova Scotia in the early hours of Saturday, September 24, according to the Canadian Hurricane Centre. Environment and Climate Change Canada said the unofficial recorded pressure at Hart Island of 931.6 millibars made Fiona the the lowest-pressured land-falling storm on record in Canada. Hurricane-force gusts continued over exposed areas throughout Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island, and intense rain fell in western Nova Scotia, according to the Hurricane Centre, which is part of Environment and Climate Change Canada. This video, showing heavy winds and flashes in the dark before the storm made landfall, was filmed Fiona Kirkpatrick Parsons. “Fiona’s getting real. I heard a strange sound — a hum — and went out on our front verandah,” she said of the storm. Kirkpatrick Parsons said the footage shows a transformer explosion in Bedford, Nova Scotia. The Canadian Hurricane Centre said Fiona was weakening and tracking northeastward across Cape Breton on Saturday morning. Credit: Fiona Kirkpatrick Parsons via Storyful
