Pediatric cancer patients were evacuated in a convoy from Lviv, Ukraine, with the intent to travel to Poland for critical care and treatment as Russia continued its invasion of Ukraine. Parents spoke to Current Time as they waited for a bus from Lviv in western Ukraine that would transport their children to “vital cancer treatment” in Poland. “After the war started, we had to go to the Okhmatdyt clinic [in Kyiv] for treatment. But we couldn’t get there, so we were told to go to Lviv,” a man named Ihor told Current Time. He said the decision to go abroad was hard, but “we have to save the life of our child.” According to the convoy organizer, more than 300 young cancer patients have been evacuated since the start of the Russian invasion on February 24, and “many more are waiting to leave,” volunteers told Current Time.
