Game Director Joe Blackburn recently hinted at the Destiny raid that Bungie plans to revive in 2022 for Destiny 2. Bungie's roadmap of content for the shooter next year spans far beyond the reprisal of an unspecified classic raid. The studio recently unveiled a first look at The Witch Queen expansion, too, which is slated to release on February 22.
Savathûn, the Witch Queen in question, has lingered in the background of the Destiny universe since The Taken King's advent back in September 2015. The upcoming expansion will finally give her the spotlight, allowing players to go head-to-head against the Hive Queen and her Lucent Brood followers. She's bound to prove the most formidable foe to date, given Bungie's confirmation that Savathûn and the Lucent Brood will wield the power of the Traveler's Light while battling Guardians.
In discussing seasonal artifact mods and the upcoming return of the Gjallarhorn rocket launcher with PC Gamer, Game Director Joe Blackburn offered a quick hint about the unspecified Destiny raid set to hit Destiny 2 next year. Blackburn referred to the mystery content as a "banger," saying Bungie aims to carefully choose a raid that won't "sink the ship." The crew is also homing in on delivering something "as awesome as the Vault of Glass reprise," which went live this past May - a little less than seven years after its original introduction in 2014's Destiny.
Throughout its relatively brief lifespan, the first Destiny installment received a total of four different raids. Vault of Glass launched first in September 2014, followed by Crota's End in early 2015. King's Fall arrived with The Taken King expansion in late 2015, with Wrath of the Machine's September 2016 arrival marking Destiny's final bit of raid content. With Vault of Glass already out of the way, there are only three possible raids left for the Destiny 2 reprise. Of course, jury's still out on which direction Bungie intends to go in.
Thus far, Destiny 2 has played host to twice as many raids, with Leviathan counting as the first of the bunch. Deep Stone Crypt represents the most recent, having entered the mix in late last year in November 2020 alongside the Beyond Light expansion.
Destiny 2 is available to play on Google Stadia, PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S platforms.
