Indiana Jones 5 Director Humorously Shoots Down Trailer Release Rumor

Indiana Jones 5 director James Mangold humorously shoots down a trailer release rumor. A fifth Indiana Jones movie is coming with Harrison Ford back as the world-famous adventurer and Mangold taking over for Steven Spielberg as director.

Indiana Jones 5 is indeed currently shooting in the UK and already there has been a minor setback as Ford suffered a stunt-related shoulder injury and was later seen on the set with his arm in a sling. Details are scarce about the movie’s plot, but images leaking out from the shoot suggest a story set both in the World War II era with Nazis returning as the villains and in 1969. Indeed, recent leaks from the movie’s Glasgow shoot teased not only a moon landing related plot point, they also afforded a good look at Indiana Jones 5 star Phoebe Waller-Bridge decked out in classic ‘60s attire. In addition to the Fleabag actress, the movie also stars Boyd Holbrook, Mads Mikkelsen, Antonio Banderas and Toby Jones.

Obviously with Indiana Jones 5 only in the early stages of shooting it’s still way too soon for audiences to be expecting a trailer. Despite this, a fan took to Twitter to ask the movie's director Mangold if a trailer might arrive ahead of the Friday, July 30 release of Jungle Cruise, which like Indy 5 also happens to be a Disney title. One helpful fan in the thread chimed in to mention that it would be “impossible” for a trailer to be ready given the film has only been shooting for a short time. Then Mangold himself jumped in to confirm it would indeed be impossible for a trailer to get done by this Friday. See the exchange in the space below:

Indeed there can’t be very much footage in the can from Indiana Jones 5 as it hasn’t been before cameras for all that long. Any Indy 5 trailer that might play in the near future would only be a teaser probably not using any actual movie footage. But even that’s clearly not happening, as Mangold totally shut down speculation. Of course, it’s possible a surprise teaser could be in the offing, and the Indiana Jones-like Jungle Cruise would seemingly be a good movie to premiere it with. If that’s the case, Mangold would certainly not be interested in letting the cat out of the bag, and might therefore deliberately shoot down speculation as a means of throwing fans off the trail.

Of course it would be great to see any Indiana Jones 5 footage available as there’s a lot of intrigue building up behind the movie. The apparent split timeline story, which could use de-aging technology on Ford for the World War II scenes, sounds interesting. And the moon landing related 1969 story involving Waller-Bridge and Holbrook also seems promising. Unfortunately, it seems there will still be a long wait for any actual footage to emerge from Indiana Jones 5. With the release still a year away, a full trailer will likely not be along for some months. And when that trailer is ready to come out, Mangold himself will surely be happy to let fans know.
