Top 10 E3 Video Game Pre-Orders Revealed By GameStop

With E3 2021 in the rearview, GameStop has revealed its top-10 video game pre-orders from the conference. E3 2021 was home to several massive reveals, like Starfield's made-in-engine teaser trailer, and now some of the larger retailers are letting the public know which reveals really caught players' eyes (and their wallets).

Just a few days ago, Amazon did something similar when it revealed that Metroid Dread was the most pre-ordered game in several countries, including the U.S., the U.K., and Japan. Now GameStop, which has seen a stock market-fueled renaissance this year, has given its list of top 10 pre-orders, a week after E3 2021 ended. And, spoiler alert, it is almost entirely Nintendo titles.

An official GameStop press release lists the top-10 pre-ordered titles following E3 2021 and, while it does not mention the exact number of pre-orders, it does list them in descending order from most pre-ordered to least. The list in full reads:

  1. Metroid Dread
  2. Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword HD
  3. Mario Golf Switch
  4. Pokémon Brilliant Diamond/Shiny Pearl
  5. Mario Party Superstars
  6. Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy
  7. Far Cry 6
  8. Dungeons & Dragons Dark Alliance
  9. Madden NFL 22
  10. Pokémon Legends: Arceus

343 Industries' Halo Infinite was noted as an honorable mention and still (at the time of writing) does not have an official release date. There are plenty of things to take away from the lists, but the biggest appears to be that Metroid Dread has topped another major retailer's pre-order list, which means the game is poised to have a huge opening week when it releases in October.

Outside of Metroid Dread, the rest of the top-5 spots are occupied by other Nintendo titles. While Pokémon Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl was missing from Nintendo's E3 2021 presentation, the other top-5 titles were revealed at E3. Mario Party is one of the best-selling series Nintendo has, so it is not surprising to see Mario Party Superstars and its 100 classic minigames beating out other heavy hitters like Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy and Ubisoft's Far Cry 6.

Nintendo's announcements at E3 2021 were apparently real crowd pleasers, as retailers have shown. There are no shortage of interesting takeaways from the above list, such as Far Cry 6 being as low as it is. Could that be because the other games above it were THAT good? Or, is fan excitement for the title so low, it slipped to GameStop's 7th most pre-ordered game? Without hard numbers, it is hard to say definitively which is the case. What IS safe to say at this point is that Metroid Dread is looking like the "winner" of E3 2021.
