Early Access open world FPS Postal 4: No Regerts receives its huge "Thursday Update" on a Monday morning because Postal has never really been a fan of making sense. The series, helmed for most of its history by developer Running With Scissors, is known for its extremely over-the-top combat, its shameless stabs at satire, and its proud lack of common decency. Postal 4 serves as a direct sequel to Postal 2, the last game made by the original developers. Postal 3, a game made by contracted developers and left unfinished on the Steam store, is generally considered to not exist, to the point where the official Postal website has a link to a Rickroll in place of any documentation on the project.
Originally released in late 2019, Postal 4 has been making steady progress towards a full release by adding new areas and new interactable elements to the open world. The last major update hit on March 2, adding a new pistol, an upgraded look for the Fournicator shotgun, and the ability to see player cosmetics in cutscenes. This was a second patch for the Wednesday Update, with every major update of that type getting players closer to Postal 4's promised full week in the town of Edensin.
Postal 4's Thursday Update adds a good chunk of content in terms of new locations, new weapons, and new things to do. The Postal Dude can now wield a chain sickle known as The Rattler and a sniper rifle, and all appropriate weapons now also have an aim down sights feature for the first time. Weapons new and old can be used to violently interact with the Mountain Men of the new Dark Lodge area or the protestors outside the casino. These groups are involved in the errands added in the update, letting the Dude fix a local race, fix an election, and fix an unfinished virtual reality game.
When the Dude isn't performing errands for the people of Edensin, he can enjoy the sights and sounds of the local theme park. Running With Scissors has made all the very much NSFW rides in the appropriately named Kunny Island completely interactable. The update also gives NPCs the ability to drive (and steal) scooters, adding to the chaos of a simple stroll down the town square. The Thursday Update for Postal 4: No Regerts is available now, getting the game one step closer to its final, inglorious vision.
Postal 4: No Regerts is undoubtedly a guilty pleasure that pulls out all the stops to appeal to the baser instincts of the gaming public. It also shows just how far the medium has grown since Postal's heyday in the late '90s and early '00s. While the original games made waves and attracted protests of their own thanks to the shocking content within, Postal 4 has carved out its own niche on Steam alongside other adult games. There are so many releases nowadays that everyone should be able to play what they want, whether that be the latest AAA battle royale or a game where a box of pigeons doubles as a deadly grenade.
