The Real Housewives of New York star Ramona Singer has a reputation for doing whatever she wants, whenever she wants. During the latest reunion, castmate Leah Sweeney confronted Ramona for frequenting Tom D'Agostino's Florida yacht parties at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. This year, Leah's calling Ramona out for leaking stories to the press and pretending to donate blood plasma. Ramona was defensive in her responses on both occasions, looking to redirect and minimize whenever possible. When it came down to it, "did you donate the blood plasma or no?" Leah asked. Ramons responded, "I got tested, and I had strong antibodies." Ebony took that as her final statement, and Luann and Sonia did not look shocked as she flitted around whether she donated antibodies. Leah cemented, "Ramona is trying to make herself look better after her sh*tty behavior during the pandemic."
Ebony also attempted to hold Ramona Singer accountable for not knowing her staff member Michelle's name and referring to her instead as "the help." Ramona was avoidant before Ebony could even get into the issue. Ramona said, "Can you tell me later because I know it's going to be negative" and "right now, I wanna drink my wine, have some fun." In any case, Ebony continued, saying: "So my grandmother worked her whole life as a domestic" and "I think historically in this country 'the help' can make people feel devalued." Ramona was receptive to Ebony, declaring: "I love the fact that Eboni, in a non-condescending way, is explaining to me the reason why that word isn't cool." It seems like the veteran Housewives may have had some coaching when it comes to sitting back and listening to their new co-stars.
We are now five episodes deep into the new season of The Real Housewives of New York, and it is clear that production opted to get as much footage out of the ladies' Hamptons weekend adventure as possible. The relaxed backdrop, however, hasn't brought an entirely mellow escape. Ramona Singer already bumped heads with Leah twice. When Ebony pointed out that no one called Leah angry when she became frustrated, Ramona said, "Well, her grandmother is dying," to which Ebony had to remind her that hers was as well. The dialogue was yet another example of how Black women are sometimes not afforded the opportunity to have a range of emotions, especially negative ones.
Luann de Lesseps may have had the most significant confrontation so far on this RHONY season regarding race and social justice after unfairly calling Ebony angry. However, while egotistical, Luann has had a slightly more grounded energy in her sober yoga phase with Garth than Ramona has. Ebony and Luann veered off the deep end quickly but were able to sit down and repair by the end of the episode in a space where Ebony felt like Luann was authentically apologetic.
On the other hand, when it comes to Ramona, authentic apologies are few and far between. Ebony said, "Leah, you're never going to get what you want from a woman like that with an approach like this." While Ramona took accountability for one action, she was still all denial when it came to more egregious behavior she displayed on The Real Housewives of New York. If she's going to survive these uncomfortable and essential topics, she might need a few tips from the semi-humbled Luann.
