Netflix’s Fate: The Winx Saga season 2 can potentially reveal Bloom’s devastating secret past, which could unravel horrific details about her identity and the lore of the Dragon Flame. Being Netflix’s new live-action adaptation of the long-running and well-loved Winx Club cartoon, Fate: The Winx Saga draws most of its setting from the original, while making significant changes in terms of tone, characters, and narrative stakes. While Fate: The Winx Saga season 1 ended with Rosalind orchestrating a coup at Alfea in order to take over the school, it is imperative season 2 explore Bloom’s true parental lineage, along with much of the past that remains hidden and uncharted.
When diving deeper into the intricate lore of the Winx Club, it becomes apparent that Bloom’s homeworld is a realm named Domino, which was created by the Great Dragon, a magical creature that entrusted a spark of his miraculous flame to the realm’s royal family. This incredible power, also known as the Dragon Flame, which purportedly resides within Bloom, was passed down through generations until it resided within Bloom. However, a dark tragedy ensued on her birth realm, the revelation of which could leave Bloom spiraling out of control, yet again.
This sets up the premise for Lord Darkar, an ancient deity of pure darkness and doom who could potentially be introduced as one of the primary antagonists in Fate: The Winx Saga season 2. Now that the show revealed that the residents of Aster Dell, the Blood Witches, had kidnapped Bloom in order to harness the power of the Dragon Flame within her, it is likely this group’s connection with Lord Darkar will be explored in greater detail in season 2, if there is to be one. According to Winx Club lore, Dark tried to obtain the Dragon Flame with the aid of the Blood Witches, which led to the destruction of Domino as a whole, with Bloom’s parents being killed by the dark forces. Moreover, all the inhabitants of Domino were encased in stone, with the rest of the realm being frozen.
So far in The Winx Saga, Bloom is under the impression her biological parents abandoned her, as she grapples with her core identity, owing to the fact that Bloom is revealed to be a changeling. As Bloom is not aware of the latent power of the Dragon Flame within her, and the extent to which several groups are intent on robbing her of this power, she is currently not in a position to understand the greater repercussions that her actions have on the Otherworld as a whole. Although much of Bloom’s behavior throughout Season 1 has been immensely tunnel-visioned and self-serving, this could hopefully change when she learns the truth about Domino and her parents, although it is bound to devastate her and potentially lead her astray, now that Rosalind controls Alfea, and Farah Dowling is most likely dead.
Furthermore, it will be interesting to witness whether Bloom can utilize this revelation in favor of the greater good, proceeding to understand the intertwined forces that are in play without being manipulated by covert masterminds like Rosalind. Now that Sky’s father, Andreas is back, and the entirety of Alfea will be undergoing a grass-root level administrative change, loyalties are bound to clash, with the foundations of trust, love, and friendship being ripped apart and formed anew. While it will be painful for Bloom to accept the dark history of her past, hopefully, Fate: The Winx Saga season 2 will find a way to elevate her trajectory out of the trappings of the trope of the chosen one.
