Fortnite Tomb Raider Skin Likely Debunked By Terminator Portal

Tomb Raider protagonist Lara Croft is believed by many to be headed to Fortnite, but it's now seems that the game's next crossover character will actually be from Terminator. The current running storyline of Epic Games' uber-popular battle royale/virtual world revolves around how the defeat of Marvel's Galactus last month opened rifts across the multiverse. These all lead legendary hunters back to the Zero Point in the heart of the ever-evolving Battle Royale Island.

Since Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 5 began, portals have started opening in certain locations on The Island prior to the next bounty hunter's arrival, giving players a interdimensional peek into their licensed worlds. So far, larger-than-life characters like The Mandalorian's Din Djarin (with Grogu in tow) and the fearsome headhunter Predator from the eponymous action series have made their way into the game as playable characters, often with their own unique locations being added to the map. It's perhaps even more of an ambitious crossover than Season 4's Marvel Comics mania, but that doesn't mean everyone will make the cut.

Speculation regarding Lara Croft's entry into Fortnite started with a tweet by data miner Mang03. They discovered in-game files referencing a crossover female character codenamed "Typhoon" with "reactive styles" that will appear above Steamy Stacks in the near future. Around the same time, the official Tomb Raider account tweeted an image made of emojis that prominently features a pickaxe. While fans jumped at the idea of this being a sort of confirmation that Croft is a Fortnite shoe-in, the recent tease of the Terminator franchise heavily suggests that this character could actually be Sarah Connor, if not another character entirely.

While it's all speculation at this point, the above tweet is most likely a more innocent reference to the recent reboot trilogy of games, in which Lara Croft uses a bow and arrow to pick off foes and a pickaxe to scale sheer cliffs. For now, there's nothing that solidly connects the character to Fortnite, while Terminator has already been given an overt Easter egg nod in the exact same portal and location.

There is seemingly no franchise to big for developer Epic Games to corral into its own Fortnite universe, so it and Square Enix shouldn't take Lara Croft off the table just yet. With fellow gaming icons Master Chief and Kratos recently making their debut in the battle royale phenomenon, some wider representation of the medium's own all-stars would make for welcome additions.
