The Witcher: Every New Monster Teased For Season 2 (So Far)

The Witcher season 2 will introduce more monsters, and while Netflix is keeping most of them a secret, it has already teased a couple – and here’s what they are. Based on the book series by Andrzej Sapkowski, The Witcher made its debut on Netflix in December 2019 and was a big hit with critics and viewers, and it might be the platform’s biggest first TV season ever. Netflix was aware of the popularity of Sapkowski’s stories and their video game adaptations and decided to renew the series for a second season before the first one was out.

The Witcher approached Sapkowski’s characters and stories differently, with a non-linear narrative following three characters in different places and points in time, with their paths converging towards the end of the season. These characters are the title witcher, Geralt of Rivia (Henry Cavill); Yennefer of Vengerberg (Anya Chalotra), a powerful sorceress; and Ciri (Freya Allan), the crown princess of Cintra. Throughout season 1, Geralt came across different monsters, which didn’t stick around for long, but as the world of The Witcher is quite extensive, there are still a lot more to be featured.

The second season of Netflix’s The Witcher will welcome more monsters and creatures, but many of them are being kept under wraps, and only three have been revealed, even if partially. Netflix put together a video for Halloween showcasing the monsters Geralt came face to face with in season 1, and it also included some quick glimpses at new monsters, of which one has caught the attention of fans due to its peculiar form. Here’s every new monster teased for The Witcher season 2:

The presence of bruxae in Netflix’s The Witcher was revealed through the casting of Agnes Bjorn as Vereena, a powerful bruxa who falls in love with another new character, Nivellen. Bruxae are a type of vampire that take on the appearance of dark-haired young women, but their natural form is that of large, black bats with sharp fangs and claws. Unlike traditional vampires, they are not affected by sunlight, and they let out a piercing scream that can send a grown man flying through the air.

In the aforementioned “Monster Mash” video, around the 15-second mark, there’s a very quick look at one of the monsters in The Witcher season 2. It’s a one-eyed creature with long legs resembling branches, crawling over what appears to be a log (not only is it a very brief look but also a very dark one). Fans haven’t been able to figure out what this monster is, but the most similar creature there is to it is the eyehead, a monster with four pairs of thin legs, a segmented body, and eyes mounted on stalks. It’s also possible that this could be a new monster, or even a part of a bigger, more menacing creature.

Around the 30-second mark in the same video, there’s a slightly longer yet still brief look at three skeletons, which might not look as menacing as the other creatures, but they might be the source of a lot of chaos for Geralt and company. Fans have pointed out their resemblance to a couple of creatures from The Witcher, mostly the banshees from the video games and the crones or Ladies of the Woods. Banshees are female spirits who cry on Saovine night, wailing a warning of those who will die. Although they are not actually malicious spirits, they are considered to be an omen of the worst kind. On the other hand, the Crones (also called Ladies of the Wood) are three witches who live in a cabin in the swamps of Velen, and they communicate through an enchanted tapestry and a medium.
