Here's How Warzone Will Work With Modern Warfare & Black Ops Cold War

Infinity Ward and Treyarch have shared a comprehensive guide detailing how exactly Call of Duty: Warzone will work with both Modern Warfare and the upcoming Black Ops Cold War. The latest game in the series is expected to be a hefty download, especially on next-gen consoles where it’ll take advantage of 4K resolution support.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War launches next Friday, November 13, and players already know what to expect in terms of client sizes and exact timings for pre-downloads on all platforms. The next-gen consoles will be in for the longest downloads, where the game will occupy roughly 135GB of storage space. Even on PC with ultra-graphics enabled, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War takes 10GB less to install. Activision also revealed that those lucky players with pre-orders can start pre-downloading the game at 9 pm PT on November 5 for current-gen, at 10 am PT on November 10 for PC, and on respective launch days for PS5 and Xbox One X.

While Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is a brand new installment in the series, its release will nonetheless greatly benefit Warzone players. According to the recent official blog post by the Call of Duty teams, Treyarch’s newest title will introduce tons of new content to the Infinity Ward’s battle royale experience. Starting from December 10 when Season One of the battle pass launches in Black Ops Cold War, a unified player cross-progression between Black Ops Cold War, Warzone, and even Modern Warfare will emerge. It basically means that playing any of these games will result in player account progression. Additionally, all Operatives, all the new unlockable weapons, and Season Pass rewards will not only be obtainable in Black Ops Cold War, but in Warzone also. While Modern Warfare won’t receive Cold War-specific content, progress in the game will nonetheless boost the unified Battle Pass.

Warzone players will get access to any new weapons and Operatives introduced by Black Ops Cold War - regardless of whether they own the game or not. This includes blueprints and even camo variants, while all of the similar content from Modern Warfare will remain available in Warzone. There are no plans to cut anything out of Warzone, but rather further enrich it with all the novelties from the latest Call of Duty installment.

With all the new content coming to Warzone once Season One launches in Black Ops Cold War, one particular feature of the game will remain intact. Despite the deep integration between two titles, the battle royale standalone experience will not switch to the newest version of the game engine introduced by the latest game in the franchise. All of the content addition will instead be ported over to Warzone for players to use in their missions in Verdansk.

The decision to unite three Call of Duty games within the Warzone battle royale experience is clearly an excellent one, which will definitely benefit the title’s longevity and popularity. There’s also a brief mention of Call of Duty: Warzone going beyond Verdansk with the start of Season One, which might imply that the only available map in the game could be followed by a new one. It makes perfect sense considering just how many authentic Cold War-era assets the newest Call of Duty game will add.
