On The Bachelor, Jason caused a stir by dumping his winner during the finale and asking his runner-up for a second chance. His first choice, Melissa Rycroft, was forced to hand back her engagement ring on After The Final Rose and watched Jason ask runner-up Molly Malaney to give him a second chance. Jason and Molly got married less than a year after the finale of the show in 2010 in a televised special. This year, they celebrated their ten-year wedding anniversary. Jason remains one of only three former Bachelors who married a woman from their season. The only others are Sean Lowe, who married his winner, and Arie Luyendyk, who also married his runner-up. Molly and Jason have a seven-year-old daughter named Riley and live in the suburbs of Seattle, Washington. Jason works in real estate, while Molly recently left her radio show after hosting it for six years.
Before The Bachelor, Jason starred on the fourth season of The Bachelorette with DeAnna Pappas as the lead. Jason was runner-up and proposed to DeAnna in the finale. She turned Jason down and chose professional snowboarder Jesse Csincsack, but they broke up shortly after. Jason was known as “the single dad” on The Bachelorette, as he was the first single parent to compete on the show. He was previously married to Hilary Buckholz from 2003 to 2007 and has a 15-year-old son from the marriage named Tyler (via Distractify). Jason was given custody of Tyler, who still lives with Jason, Molly, and their daughter in Kirkland, Washington. Hilary now goes by Hilary Madison Wynn-Laney, and has two more children from her current marriage.
Little is known about Jason’s early life, as he was not in the entertainment industry before The Bachelorette. The 44-year-old was born in Cleveland, Ohio, and has two brothers named Sean and Harry. The family moved to Washington when Jason was eight years old, and he has stayed there for the rest of his life. His parents divorced when he was a teenager. Jason attended the University of Washington, where he graduated in 1998 with a Bachelor’s Degree in psychology and was a member of the Theta Chi fraternity. He worked in real estate after college and still does today.
Jason and Molly remain one of The Bachelor’s longest-lasting couples, and their story will be rebroadcast tonight on The Bachelor: The Greatest Seasons - Ever!
The Bachelor: The Greatest Seasons—Ever! airs on ABC Monday nights at 8 pm EST.
