Disney+'s upcoming series Ms. Marvel is reportedly casting for Kamala Khan's brother and best friend. Ms. Marvel is only one of several exciting Marvel Cinematic Universe shows planned for the streaming service. Some, such as The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, WandaVision, and Loki will star characters already seen in the MCU. However, others, like Ms. Marvel, Moon Knight, and She-Hulk will introduce a brand new batch of heroes. Ms. Marvel will focus on Kamala Khan, a relatively new character to the comic book world. She made her debut in a 2013 Captain Marvel comic, taking up Carol Danvers' mantle when she became the well-known hero.
Kamala Khan is also notable for being a Pakistani American teenager, making the platform of a Disney+ show especially exciting. Ms. Marvel is set to debut in 2022. However, some information about the series has already come to light. Its working title, "Jersey," suggests it will take place in New Jersey, as does Kamala's story in the comics. Additionally, the series will reportedly feature the vigilante Red Dagger, as well as an Inhuman. As the Disney+ characters are expected to also appear in the movies, many believe Kamala will make her film debut in Captain Marvel 2, though that isn't confirmed.
Now, it's been revealed Ms. Marvel will reportedly feature two other characters from the comics. Per The Illuminerdi, Marvel is casting one male and one female character who would both appear in four of the six planned episodes of season 1. Though the characters are given alternate names in the casting calls, the descriptions make them sound like Kamala’s best friend, Nakia, and older brother, Aamir. The male character is described as "a Pakistani American in his mid-to-late 20’s, a practicing Muslim and a self-proclaimed wiser older brother," as well as "modern and spirited." Meanwhile, the female part is "a 16 to 20 year old American teenager of Turkish, Moroccan, or Arab decent. Active in student organizations with a love of being in charge" and a "hijabi Muslim, woke, popular, stylish and smart."
If Aamir and Nakia are in fact the two characters joining the cast of Ms. Marvel, they would be an important addition to the show. In the comics, Kamala's family and friends are incredibly important to her, so it makes sense to have these key characters involved in the series. They should provide insight into Kamala's backstory and how it impacts her decision to take up the Ms. Marvel mantle.
Of course, there's another character essential to Kamala's story who hasn't yet been confirmed: Brie Larson's Captain Marvel. Though she's a big part of Kamala's superhero origin story, it's unknown at this time if Larson will appear on Ms. Marvel. If she doesn't, it seems even more likely Kamala will pop up in Captain Marvel 2, finally allowing the two heroes to meet onscreen.
