Which True Blood Character Are You Based On Your Chinese Zodiac?

In its day, True Blood was one of those shows that one simply had to watch. A significant contributor to its success was, of course, its characters. Though the main character Sookie was only moderately interesting, each season introduced new characters that were designed to grab the viewer’s attention and not let go. Witches, fairies, werewolves, and vampires appeared time and again, all of them with their own motivations and their own sinister powers.

Every character that appeared, of course, had their own characteristics that made them stand out, and thinking about them in terms of where they fit in the Chinese zodiac is a way of gaining a renewed appreciation for the show’s genius for creating them.

12 Rat  - Sookie

Sookie is, of course, the person around whom the entire series revolves. Though she’s rather bland in some ways, there’s no question that she is, at heart, a fundamentally good, kind person who is doing the best she can with the blessing/curse of her mind-reading ability.

Furthermore, like any rat, she frequently shows that she’s very quick-witted, especially when she is confronted with danger (which happens often, since every supernatural character seems to have an obsession with her).

11 Ox  - Bill

When the series begins, it is the vampires who are the most notable supernatural creatures. Foremost among them is Bill, the Civil War veteran who doesn’t really like being a vampire. He soon embarks on a romance with Sookie, and their love for one another is one of the throughlines that goes through most of the series (in one form or another).

He’s a very strong and dependable character and, even when he and Sookie are no longer a couple, he still has her best interests at heart.

10 Tiger - Eric

As interesting as Bill is, there’s no question that Eric Northman is the most fascinating vampire on the series. Part of this no doubt stems from the fact that he’s such an enigma; he doesn’t like to reveal too much of himself to others.

He also possesses a truly breathtaking self-confidence, one that leads him to sometimes take risks and to do things that put him in all sorts of danger (which he still manages to get out of).

9 Rabbit -  Adele

Sookie’s life seems to have been one that is innately unsettled. How could it not be, when one of her powers is the ability to read minds? However, there was one aspect of her life that had stability, and that was her grandmother Adele.

Though she only appeared in the first season, what the audience sees of this delightful old lady is enough to demonstrate that she is, like so many others born under the sign of the rabbit, kind and responsible, doing the best she can for her granddaughter.

8 Dragon- Russell

Russell is one of the best characters that the show ever introduced. How could he not be, when he’s played by Denis O’Hare, who always has the ability to bring out the many rich depths of his characters? Russell is a cold and ruthless sort of vampire, one possessed of a formidable intelligence that has allowed him to live far longer than almost any other vampire the audience sees.

However, his confidence does tend to get him into trouble, particularly when he underestimates other vampires.

7 Snake - Pam

It’s not really surprising that Pam became something of a fan favorite for those who loved the show. After all, she has a biting sense of humor and a sharp tongue. She’s also something of an enigma, and the viewer can’t quite pin her down (it doesn’t help that so much of her backstory remains unclear).

However, there is also a strong strain of wisdom that runs through Pam’s character, and there’s no doubt that she has a very good head on her shoulders.

6 Horse - Jason

It’s very easy to dismiss Jason. After all, in all of his time on the show he seemed to show signs of having very little brain and lots of sex drive.

However, he was also a deeply loyal person, and he sincerely loved his sister and looked out for her. As someone born under the sign of the horse, he also showed its traditional characteristics, including and especially his energy and his enthusiasm for all the good things in life.

5 Goat - Lafayette

Lafayette was one of the best characters to have ever appeared on the show. This is somewhat ironic, since his character actually dies at the end of the first book.

It was impossible not to love Lafayette, particularly since he always had a sassy word or a piece of advice or support for anyone who came to him. He was, in fact, one of the show’s most sympathetic characters, and he had a genuine heart.

4 Monkey - Jessica

Jessica began on the show as Bill’s unwilling progeny, a woman that he was forced to transform into a vampire against both his wishes and hers.

As she matured, however, she became a more fully developed character, and she consistently showed herself to be a smart and curious young woman, someone who was determined to make the most out of her immortality, even as she had to contend with a number of romantic problems.

3 Rooster - Tara

Tara was one of those characters that seemed unable to stay out of trouble. She had a good heart, but time and again she was pulled into the worst sorts of situations.

However, that being said, she also consistently showed herself to be a courageous young woman, one who was determined to try to live her life on her terms and to escape from her troubled childhood and her deeply dysfunctional relationship with her mother.

2 Dog - Alcide

It is fitting that Alcide the werewolf would show all of the traits of those born under the sign of the dog. From the moment that he appeared on the screen he seemed to cast a spell, both over Sookie and over the audience.

In a show filled with supernaturals that seemed curiously devoid of any sort of compassion or sympathetic characteristics, he showed himself to be true, honest, and courageous, even going so far as to sacrifice his life for Sookie’s.

1 Pig - Sam

Sam Merlotte was, in the beginning of the series, the owner of a bar, but as the series progressed he was shown to be a man with many hidden depths and dark secrets.

While he wasn’t always adept at making good choices in life, he was still shown to exhibit all the signs of someone who was born under the sign of the pig, and he was a remarkably compassionate and generous man, particularly toward Sookie.
