MCU: Ant-Man's 10 Biggest Mistakes (That We Can Learn From)

The smallest Avenger has become one of the most beloved over the years. Scott Lang, aka Ant-Man, might have seemed like a strange choice for the MCU's next hero, but the character has proven to be a funny, charming and heroic addition to the team.

Part of what makes Scott Lang such an interesting hero is that he seems out of his element. He is still learning how to be a superhero and sometimes that leads to him making some pretty big mistakes. While he always remains lovable, Ant-Man has caused some pretty big problems for being such a small guy.

10 Joining Cap's Team

One of the best recurring jokes in the MCU is Ant-Man's fanboy love for Captain America. It seems like that is the only reason he agrees to join Cap's team in Captain America: Civil War. It's not like he knows any of the Avengers, yet he is still totally willing to break the law with them.

Not only was it dangerous for Scott to agree to join this fight, but he wasn't really thinking about his other commitments. He had just escaped more prison time and now he was right back in trouble again.

9 Returning Hank's Suit

After getting a tip about a big score, Scott agrees to help Luis and his team with a heist. However, the score turns out to be Hank Pym's Ant-Man suit. After trying it on and getting freaked out by the shrinking ability, Scott decides he doesn't want the suit after all.

In an extremely dumb move, Scott breaks back into Hank's home and returns the suit. But this time he is caught and thrown in prison.

8 Breaking Into Avengers Compound

Though he certainly has some solid skills, Ant-Man is not a top-tier superhero in the MCU. So the fact that he tries to break into the Avengers' compound is probably not the smartest idea. But for some reason, Scott's ego lets him believe he is up for the challenge.

He is immediately discovered by Falcon and has to fight him to retrieve the special equipment inside the compound. If someone like Cap had been around that day, Scott would have been screwed.

7 Returning To A Life Of Crime

After getting out of prison, Scott struggles to make a life for himself as an ex-convict. He gets a job at Baskin-Robbins but loses that quite quickly. When his ex-wife tells him he needs a job and an apartment in order to see his daughter Cassie, Scott becomes more determined.

However, Scott's idea of turning his life around is going back to his life of crime. It is a move of desperation, but it's also quite a selfish one. It could have easily meant he would go back to jail and not see Cassie for even longer.

6 Accepting Hank's Mission

Once he proves himself to be a skilled thief, Scott is recruited by Hank Pym to steal the Pym Particles being developed by Darren Cross. Scott excepts the mission, wanting to prove that he is not just a criminal and is capable of becoming a hero.

However, Scott and Hank both should have realized he was not the right person for the job. Hope was much more skilled with the technology and could have pulled it off much more efficiently than Scott if he had just gotten out of the way.

5 Becoming Giant-Man

Despite not really belonging there, Scott proves to be an asset for Captain America's team when they are fighting Iron Man's team in Germany. He really shows his value when he breaks out his secret weapon and transforms into Giant-Man for the battle.

As impressive as it is, this was a pretty reckless thing for Scott to do. He admits he only did it once in a lab and that there was a possibility he could be torn in half. That's a big risk to take for a low-stakes fight.

4 Abandoning Hope And Hank

Even though he has previously been very reckless about breaking the law, in Ant-Man and the Wasp, Scott is determined to become a law-abiding citizen. While on house arrest for breaking the Sokovia Accords, Scott is once again recruited to help Hank and Hope.

He manages to do so without getting caught, but when Hank and Hope are so close to finding Janet in the Quantum Realm, Scott abandons them so he won't get in trouble with the law. Seeing that he got them into trouble in the first place, it seems pretty selfish.

3 Giving Away The Location Of Their Hideout

As Hank and Hope attempt to enter the Quantum Realm and search for Janet, they are forced to take their lab to a secret hiding spot where the authorities won't find them. Unfortunately, Scott doesn't seem to understand the concept of a secret hideout.

He tells Luis where they are hiding and Luis is forced to give up that information to the police. Just as Hank and Hope are on the verge of finding Janet, they are arrested — all because Scott couldn't keep his mouth shut.

2 Making Hope And Hank Fugitives

Along with being incredibly dangerous for himself, Scott's decision to join Captain America in Germany ruins Hank and Hope's life as well. When Scott was arrested for breaking the Accords, the fact that he was using Hank Pym's tech meant that Hank and Hope were guilty as well.

That would be especially frustrating for them considering Scott stole the suit without their knowledge. They are forced to go on the run because of his mistake.

1 Not Bringing Hope With Him

As if Scott's exploits with the Avengers weren't damaging enough, he didn't even think to include Hope in his plans. He apparently took off to Germany without mentioning anything to her, despite the fact that they were romantically involved.

This decision is especially dumb considering how much more qualified Hope is than Scott. She even points out to him that if she was there in Germany, he would never have been caught in the first place.
