John Mulaney Bringing New Sack Lunch Bunch Episodes To Comedy Central

Beloved comedian John Mulaney has finally announced two followup episodes to his hilarious and eccentric children's TV special John Mulaney & the Sack Lunch Bunch. The special originally premiered on Netflix late last year to critical praise and audience delight. It featured zany bits and musical numbers performed by Mulaney and a group of child actors aged 8-13. Some of the famous guest stars included the likes of Jake Gyllenhaal and André De Shields.

Lucky for fans of the original special, Comedy Central announced today in a press release that two new installments of the variety show would premiere on their platform. Mulaney is set to headline, and executive produce both, with one made especially to reunite the original cast in a holiday-themed episode. This is Mulaney's first return to Comedy Central since his 2012 stand-up special New in Town premiered on the network.

"I was an intern at Comedy Central when I was barely older than the kids in the 'Sack Lunch Bunch,'" Mulaney said of the news, before adding: "I wasn’t a very good intern, so I am psyched they hired me again." Mulaney got his start in comedy as a writer on Saturday Night Live, where he has returned to host three times since leaving the show in 2012. He has also headlined numerous standup specials and co-starred in the Broadway show Oh, Hello, and animated series Big Mouth with fellow comedian and friend Nick Kroll.

The announcement of these new installments is sure to excite longtime fans of Mulaney's signature comedy as well as those more recent fans who discovered him through the first Netflix special. Unfortunately, they can expect some delay on the specials given the COVID-19 pandemic's effect on Hollywood production schedules. Regardless, John Mulaney & the Sack Lunch Bunch will be returning to our screens soon enough—just on a different platform.
