There are countless fairytales, some more familiar than others, and Disney has adapted quite a few of these stories into classic films. From tales of evil queens and spoiled stepsisters to worlds of magic and wonder, many of these have transcended the realm of childlike glee and have gracelessly belly-flopped into the pool of relatable humor.
The wide audience of these beloved stories have, once again, crafted a batch of silly memes to laugh at, inwardly or outwardly, and they all are great additions to the already extensive folder of fairytale related humor. Here are 10 hilarious memes based on Disney fairytales.
10 An Hour’s Worth Of Tears
Rich girl Charlotte may not be the most relatable character in a Disney film, but she understands the significance of an ugly cry. Despite her character being more than a leap away in relatability to the general audience, Charlotte “I Never Get Anything I Wish For” La Bouff may be on to something here.
Very few things spell relief like an ugly cry, spoiled daughter of a rich sugar baron or not, and this dramatic character is proof of that.
9 Wide Awake
Aurora probably has more magical things to look at, like fairies and forest creatures, but she most likely knows the feeling of an off-kilter circadian rhythm.
As this meme suggests, the mysteries of sleeping patterns sometimes make little sense, but imagine if this was the actual story of Sleeping Beauty. Maybe the wicked fairy’s curse didn’t work, and she lay there planning her revenge as she feigned sleep when guests would visit. Then she gets up in the dark morning to exact her plan.
8 If The Shoe Fits
In all the kingdom, the glass slipper would only fit Cinderella's foot, thus the phrase, “If the shoe fits, wear it,” comes into play. If it doesn’t fit, then the foot must not belong to Cinderella.
Few words are needed to understand the common humor in this meme, and it speaks so aptly to the beauty of an indirect post. If there are no names mentioned, try the shoe on. Otherwise, the shoe will find its owner.
7 The Feeling Of No
Tiana understands that sometimes there isn’t any other word to describe an emotion other than “no.” Kiss a frog? No. Remain a frog for most of the film? No. Miss out on personal goals and dreams due to kissing a supposed prince? No. It’s all right here.
If any Disney princess was the human embodiment of the word “no,” it would definitely be The Princess And The Frog's Tiana, especially seeing as she spent most of the film amongst animals, which is a whole different issue to tackle.
6 Cry Me A River ... But Make It Dramatic
Alice’s adventures could have had an aquatic twist. Maybe she floats down a river of her own tears and grabs a bottle full of liquid that gives her gills and now she’s Flounder from The Little Mermaid.
A river full of tears isn’t the worst thing to wade through after consuming weirdly placed cakes and potions, and this meme is evidence of the dangers of doing a bit of emotional parkour. Alice knows what it’s like to take a break from reality, and she’d probably give one warning: don’t follow the white rabbit.
5 DIY Haircut
Ariel is the face of the many people who have taken matters into their own hands, of those who had the courage to be proactive and start down a brave path, and of those who have supremely botched their hair at home.
With this cut, she could make her way on her two legs and be an understudy for Cinderella’s stepsister, Anastasia. Perhaps this is a peek into a different storyline for The Little Mermaid, where instead of her voice, Ursula wants all of her hair.
4 Food Alarm
In the original story, it is an attractive prince that wakes Sleeping Beauty, or Aurora, but in this case, it might be French fries ... or pasta. What else could truly wake a cursed princess? It certainly isn’t true love’s kiss, which originally didn’t hold much merit in the story, and certainly not now that food is involved.
Everyone is different, of course, and would wake from the dredges of slumber for a wide range of things, but for Sleeping Beauty, takeout is key. Forget royalty and magical fairies, this princess wakes for sustenance.
3 Zoom In, Zoom Out
It’s the era of Zoom, and sometimes those audio-only meetings are a thing of true beauty. Princess Jasmine knows that an audio-only Zoom call is sometimes the best.
Jasmine's face, here on the left, might be representative of how she felt on the inside after the new law arose that stated she could only marry a prince, instead of someone she actually loved. And her face on the right symbolizes what she most likely felt when that law was abolished.
2 Pumped-Up Pumpkin
There’s nothing quite like a meme that makes you laugh, but then shortly after, makes you stare off into the distance with wide eyes like Joey Tribbiani. This Cinderella meme does just that, as it gives an exaggerated but uncomfortably understandable explanation for the huge pumpkin carriage in the classic fairytale.
Cinderella may have arrived at the ball in style, but at what genetically modified cost? Sure the “Greatest Magic Only” saves time and money, but there’s a chance she’ll develop an allergic reaction by the time she gets to the palace.
1 I’ll Be There For You
There’s nothing like friends being Friends, especially when they’re Disney royalty. It’s been a long time dealing with evil queens, wicked stepmothers, and the ball of sinister wretchedness that is Gothel. As a reward, Snow White, Rapunzel, and Cinderella are taking a much-needed break.
If Phoebe, Monica, and Rachel are seen in any future Disney fairytale films it’s because of this meme. It’s not hard to imagine Monica cleaning with the forest creatures.
