Here's how to watch The Addams Family 2 online, on the same day it releases in theaters. The Addams Family has a long history and has proven resistant to being left behind as the decades move on. The titular clan was created by cartoonist Charles Addams in 1938. The entire idea behind The Addams Family was to turn what society considered to a be "normal" family on its head, hence their creepy and kooky nature.

It wasn't until the 1960s that The Addams Family became a cultural staple though, thanks to their classic TV series starring John Astin and Carolyn Jones. While the show only ran two seasons, it led to an franchise that's never truly gone away. Interestingly, this mirrors The Munsters, another horror-themed sitcom that had a short run but inspired a long franchise, one that's about to be rebooted by director Rob Zombie.

The Addams Family has had five different small screen incarnations since 1964, and also produced four films, 1991 hit The Addams Family, 1993 sequel Addams Family Values, 1998's direct to video Addams Family Reunion, and most recently, 2019's animated The Addams Family. That effort proved to be a hit, so on October 1, 2021, The Addams Family 2 arrives to hopefully delight fans yet again. It'll be available in theaters, but for those who'd prefer to stay home, the sequel will be available to rent digitally that same day via all major VOD platforms, such as Vudu, Amazon Video, and Redbox.

Unfortunately for those who've begun to get used to new theatrical releases being made available at no extra cost through services like Warner Bros.' HBO Max, Peacock, and Paramount Plus, no such option exists for The Addams Family 2. Instead, those looking to watch The Addams Family 2 online during its theatrical release period will need to fork out premium VOD prices, which vary by movie, but tend to be $20 for most big studio releases. That's a lot for just one person to watch it, but actually a decent saving for those who would've taken their whole family to the theater to see the film.

Another notable factor in The Addams Family 2's release plan is that the day and date VOD option is only available to fans in the U.S. and Canada. Universal Pictures International is handling distribution worldwide and has opted to keep The Addams Family 2 - which features the return of Marvel's future Moon Knight Oscar Isaac as Gomez and Charlize Theron as Morticia - a theatrical exclusive outside North America. That's understandable, since not every country is seeing the continuing high levels of pandemic devastation that the U.S. and Canada are experiencing. It remains to be seen if this type of release strategy will remain a thing after 2021 ends.
