Pokémon Legends: Arceus Trainer Customization Looks Varied

A new Pokémon Legends: Arceus trailer shows off the game’s trainer customization, which is deeper than previously anticipated. Revealed back in February as a prequel (or “premake”) to 2006’s Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, Pokémon Legends: Arceus is an open-world game bucking several mainline franchise trends. While it's still a few months out from the game's 2022 release, the Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl remakes are scheduled for release on November 19.

Pokémon Legends: Arceus is a significant departure as it's the first Pokémon to introduce more action RPG gameplay elements. It features a more open setting, building on the Wild Area introduced in Pokémon Sword and Shield. While it does retain the turn-based combat that the series is known for, Pokémon Legends: Arceus introduces some significant differences, such as allowing Pokémon to perform more than one action in a single turn. Pokémon Legends: Arceus's battle styles, agile and strong, are also new, and each offer their own strengths and weaknesses.

A new Pokémon Legends: Arceus trailer on The Official Pokémon YouTube channel demonstrates - among other things - how players will be able to customize their characters in the game. The video reveals that players will be able to change their trainers' hairstyles and individual parts of their outfits, including their headgear, tops, bottoms, footwear, and accessories. There’s also an option for outfit, which covers both the top and bottom part of the character’s outfit, as teased with variously colored karate gi. The trailer confirms that there will will be several unique outfit options in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, and preordering the game will grant a bonus Hisuian Growlithe Kimono Set outfit.

Apart from trainer customization, the new trailer showed off some of the other new features that players will be able to experience in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, including a photography studio where trainers can pose and take photos with their favorite Pokémon. Players will be able to customize their trainer and Pokémon’s poses and expressions, add props, and change the background color of photos. It was additionally revealed players will be able to catch Pokémon while they ride mounts. In a gameplay segment, the player brings up a reticle and throws a Poké Ball towards a wild Pokémon to catch it while riding on the back of their Basculegion. Finally, the latest trailer also unveiled Pokémon Legends: Arceus's noble Pokémon, which include Wyrdeer and all-new Scyther evolution Kleavor.

Several new Pokémon gameplay features being revealed in one fell swoop is an effective reminder that not everything Legends: Arceus has to offer has been shown yet. Being able to customize a lot of the look of the player character and take photos with their favorite Pokémon in the photography studio afterwards offers players a creative way to show off their progress in the game not present in other mainline series titles. The new fixture could provide a new opportunity for free or paid DLC to release down the line.
