Bollywood: Fake Rockstar Games Job Listings Prompt Warning From GTA Developer

Legendary game developer Rockstar Games has issued a statement regarding various job recruitment scams and how to properly combat them. Although no specific examples were provided, Rockstar suggested that the recruitment scams were being executed through social media DMs and being used to phish for personal info. Given that the developer is one of the biggest and most acclaimed studios out there, it's no surprise that there are people trying to capitalize on the brand.

The Grand Theft Auto developer has been encountering other issues this week, as well. Rockstar mistakenly delisted its games on Steam before scrambling to get them back up on the online game marketplace. It's not exactly clear what caused this random yet rather massive error, but the developer/publisher released a patch for the Steam versions of Max Payne 3 and L.A. Noire which made all of their respective DLCs free shortly thereafter. Given that the patch also removed the DLCs from Steam's store, it's entirely possible that the wipe was a mistake in advance of this patch.

Nonetheless, Rockstar is spending its time focusing on something far more serious. The acclaimed developer released a statement making fans aware of phishing scams under the guise of job listings. A number of lucrative Rockstar job listings have been circulating for months and, given that the studio is likely working on Grand Theft Auto 6, it seems like a dream job for fans. Rockstar warned fans to stay vigilant and noted that no recruitment attempts are made through DMs, nor does the company require any fees or transactions for potential hires. "Rockstar Games does not use instant messaging to contact prospective employees or conduct interviews. We never require prospective employees to send personal information or incur fees as part of our recruiting process. If you believe you have been the victim of a recruiting scam, please fill out a complaint form at https://www.ic3.gov/," reads a statement from Rockstar.

Rockstar's most recent legitimate job postings have included things like a position for a Cinematic Gameplay Capture Artist, likely to make trailers for Rockstar games like GTA 6 and other future titles. The company is definitely hiring and there's plenty of positions open, but it's unlikely that random fans will receive miraculous job offers for the prestigious studio in their Twitter DMs.

It's not clear when Rockstar Games will release its next game, but fans can likely expect it to be Grand Theft Auto 6. Although nothing is confirmed, plenty of leaks seem to suggest as much and it has been almost a decade since the well-received Grand Theft Auto V. With that said, as development ramps up, fans can likely expect the company to also expand and hire more people to help out on the project.
