Arrow: 5 Reasons The Series Premiere Is The Best Episode (& 5 It's The Series Finale)
Even though the show is now over, it's impossible to overlook the significance of Arrow as a whole. It kickstarted a brand new universe with multiple shows and superheroes. If it wasn't for Stephen Amell's Oliver Queen, none of this would have happened. So Arrow might be over, but its impact on the Arrowverse continues.
While it still ran, the show changed a lot during its eight seasons. The characters evolved, some died and returned, some stayed gone. Most importantly, the show continued to captivate the audience, even though some argued that the first episode and season were better than the last one - or the other way around.
10 Premiere: The Charged Beginning
Even those fans who didn't quite know what to expect from the show realized they were in for a treat right after the initial scene. It was fast-paced from the start since it saw Oliver running and firing an arrow to light a fire and get the attention of a passing boat.
The viewer might not have immediately realized what was happening but the scene captured the audience's attention and proved the show wouldn't shy away from dramatic moments.
9 Finale: It's Touching
The final episode might not be as fast-paced and filled with action scenes as other episodes, but it's far from boring. What makes it even more intriguing is that it's emotionally charged.
Throughout the episodes, people who knew him well take their time to honor Oliver's memory. This all culminates in the touching scene of his funeral where most of those people who were important to Oliver pay their respects to him.
8 Premiere: It Features Characters Who Later Vanished
A show's first episode should take the time to introduce the main as well as important supporting characters. Arrow managed just that when it brought Oliver and his family as well as Laurel, Tommy, and others onto the scene.
Unlike the ending, it featured a number of characters who later disappeared from the show even though fans liked them - such as Walter, Malcolm Merlyn, or the original Earth-1 Laurel Lance.
7 Finale: It Opens The Door For A New Story
Since Arrowverse is such a big universe, it makes sense that the ending of one story doesn't mean the ending of them all. The final episode of Arrow opens up a lot of possibilities for future storylines that might yet appear in the Arrowverse.
For instance, when John Diggle discovers the Green Lantern ring. It's unclear whether John will become the new Green Lantern, but it's a promise of intriguing things that are yet to come.
6 Premiere: Oliver Begins His Journey
Oliver's journey evolved over time as Oliver evolved as a person. But when he came back to Star City, his path as a vigilante was refreshingly straightforward. There was no big drama going on, no major villain had yet appeared.
Instead, Oliver had his list full of names of people whom he was determined to punish. That resulted in a number of great action scenes in which Oliver ruthlessly pursued his enemies.
5 Finale: Green Arrow's Legacy Lives On
The last episode finally establishes that while Oliver Queen might be dead, his legacy as the Green Arrow will live on. Not just because of all the good things he did for his city but also thanks to his daughter Mia.
It seems like Mia is ready to take on the mantle of Green Arrow and continue honoring her father in this way - by protecting the same city and the people Oliver swore to protect.
4 Premiere: Full Of Humor
Unsurprisingly, the final episode of the show was mostly emotional. The first one, on the other hand, also offered a space for humor. That lightened up the otherwise dramatic story of Oliver's return home.
For example, one of the funniest scenes happened when Oliver met his future best friend, John Diggle. John was to watch over Oliver, but Oliver managed to ditch him by getting out of a car. And there are also the memorable quips between Oliver and Tommy Merlyn, who welcomes Oliver home in a big style.
3 Finale: Oliver Reunites With Felicity
The final episode shows that Felicity and Oliver were indeed meant to be. Not everybody was excited about the couple, but they were a match nevertheless.
Once Felicity knows her children will be able to take care of each other, she asks the Monitor to take her to Oliver. The couple reunites in the afterlife and Oliver reminisces about the first time he ever saw Felicity.
2 Premiere: No Olicity Romance
A lot of people loved the relationship between Oliver and Felicity. But there were also plenty of fans who disliked the fact Oliver and Felicity eventually got together.
The second group of people might appreciate the fact that the first episode didn't focus on Felicity and Oliver. In fact, Felicity wasn't even in the first episode. Instead, Oliver was trying to apologize to Laurel while Laurel and Tommy were trying to figure out their relationship.
1 Finale: Almost Everybody Lives
It's true that the final episode sees Oliver's funeral. But by this time, the fans have had the opportunity to come to terms with his death, more or less.
What makes Oliver's death more bearable is the fact that it led to the resurrection of many characters that were previously gone, such as Moira Queen, Tommy Merlyn, and Quentin Lance. All of them deserved a second chance at life and the final episode gave them this chance.
