Valheim Player Figures Out the In-Game Time With a Functional Sundial

A player’s new Valheim creation uncovers the secrets behind the in-game time system adding a new functionality to their base. As Valheim's popularity continues to soar, players continuously expand what’s possible by building bigger and better creations day after day. Recent inventions make use of the in-depth build system as Valheim players develop windmills, honeycomb designs that keep bees away, and even a roller coaster that sends boats on a wild ride. While previous builds have made life easier for countless players, a new build will uncover the secrets of a fundamental Valheim function.

One of Valheim’s most attractive features is that the build system is incredibly expansive, allowing players plenty of opportunities to turn dreams into a Viking-themed reality. Valheim's build system is the most addictive mechanic in the game, and players have used it to construct massive battleships, replicas of famous buildings like the Eifel Tower, and even the full city of Whiterun from Skyrim. A player's most recent build provides new functionality to the game in a way true to its Viking heritage.

Reddit user civalry80 showcased their new Valheim build that tells time in-game. The working sundial lets the player know when the sun is about to set and when nighttime is around the corner, so they can plan accordingly when venturing out into the dangerous landscape. With just a few wooden building blocks, the player has created a working sundial in the game.

Previously, players had to use their wit or a stopwatch to tell the in-game time, trusting their view of the sky to know how long until darkness crept over them. Since the daytime in Valheim is 21 minutes long and the nighttime is 9 minutes long, players had to set a timer or count the seconds if they wanted any chance of knowing what time it was. The development of the sundial allows players to easily tell what time it is, so they know when it is safe to leave their base for an extended period of time. Modders have also created their own way of telling time in Valheim, with the development of the Clock mod. However, vanilla game players can utilize the sundial build to tell time without any fancy equipment.

Players may want to adapt this build into their own vanilla game to know how long they have until nighttime, giving them control over one of Valheim's greatest mysteries. While the latest Valheim creation isn’t as grand or profitable as a large-scale pachinko machine, it still offers a very valuable functionality for players looking to stay safe from the darkness of night. Players may not be able to gamble or win-big with civalry80’s invention, but it might just keep them from being eaten by a pack of wolves.
