Marriage or Mortgage: Everything To Know About Sarah & Eli

Each couple featured on Netflix's Marriage or Mortgage must decide to drop tens of thousands of dollars on a wedding or a house. This decision may leave some viewers feeling a little bit sad because it's just too real. The hosts of Marriage or Mortgage understand that the reality of being unable to afford a house and a dream wedding is depressing. That's why they go above and beyond for the couples. In the case of Sarah and Eli, there was a little divine intervention as well.

Sarah and Eli from Marriage or Mortgage, which has gotten some hilarious reactions on Twitter, describe themselves as "a little bit classy, a little bit trashy." They like to dress up and eat well. However, they also enjoy getting down and partying, with the help of some moonshine. Eli is a war vet. He's a retired Marine and an aviation mechanics student at Middle Tennessee State University. Sarah is a professional singer. These two found each other at an incredibly unique moment in Eli's life.

While in Afghanistan in 2010, Eli stepped on a bomb known as an IED (improvised explosive device). It blew off his right leg and right thumb and delivered a round of shrapnel injuries. He spent two years recovering at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, where he had multiple operations. He met Sarah upon his release. Now, they've been engaged for a year and are looking forward to a wedding.

The wedding was important to Sarah and Eli because, in Sarah's words, they're both "super sentimental people." It would mean the world to them to have everyone they love gathered together to watch them marry. Eli was really looking forward to inviting all of his Marine Corps brothers. He wanted to throw a huge party to celebrate overcoming all that he'd been through.

On the other hand, there was the issue of the house. Sarah and Eli lived in a cramped, second-floor apartment. It wasn't accessible enough for Eli, and this residence also lacked garage space for their motorcycles. What's more, their downstairs neighbors apparently found them noisy.

Nightmare neighbors aside, the couple also wanted to invest in a house so that they could look forward to babies and a dog. There were good arguments on both sides and a narrow budget of $25,000. Clearly, real estate agent Nichole Holmes and wedding planner Sarah Miller had their work cut out for them. Sarah and Eli had a huge decision to make.

As it turns out, they fell in love with a house that several people had made offers for. At Nichole's recommendation, Sarah and Eli offered more than the asking price. On top of that, they wrote a letter to the sellers, hoping to sway them to accept their offer. On decision day, Nichole still had no answer about their offer. When it comes to real estate, silence usually means "no." With their dream house out of the running, Sarah and Eli went with Sarah's dream wedding.

Then, there was a twist. The sellers accepted Sarah and Eli's offer and counter-offered at under their asking price. Sarah and Nichole made a trip to Sarah and Eli's second-floor apartment to personally give them the good news. Nichole, who believes real estate is a wiser financial choice than a wedding, and regrets spending money on her own wedding, said she'd never in her entire career seen a counteroffer under asking.

Today, there seems to be yet another twist in the story of Sarah and Eli. On March 10th, 20201, Sarah posted a video to FaceBook of herself packing up and moving. According to her video, she was moving to Massachusetts for a few months and planned to save up for a down payment on a house. Though no official announcement has been made, the couple is completely absent from each others' social media accounts. Sadly, it seems like this Marriage or Mortgage fairytale couple has called it quits.
