Bollywood: Bachelor: Chris Harrison's Talk With Brittany About Slander Was Phony

This season of The Bachelor is quite possibly the most controversial one yet. Matt James is the show’s main man, but lately, he is not the topic of conversation. The women fighting for Matt’s heart are in the spotlight, and not for the right reasons. During this season, some of the women have made detrimental accusations and been remarkably petty. In an effort to win James' heart, some ladies resorted to backstabbing and tearing each other down.

Midway through the season, the show's first Black lead Matt James was introduced to five new women. One of them is Brittany Galvin, a 25-year-old model from Chicago. New contestants entering the house caused tension among the women (and especially angered Anna Redman). When Brittany arrived, Anna shared some unreliable information about the newest contestant. Anna was quick to tell the other women that people from their hometown reached out via social media to share that Brittany is an escort, which is untrue.

This fake news quickly spread through the house. It ultimately harmed Brittany’s reputation, as well as her chances with Matt. It is evident that this accusation has really hurt Brittany. However, when she was given the opportunity to share her feelings, she had to deal with a conversation that seemed forced and artificial.

On the “Women Tell All” episode, Brittany sat down with the show’s host Chris Harrison (who vows to return to his hosting duties in time) to discuss how the false rumor impacted her experience on the show and her life after The Bachelor. Brittany shared that it was hard for her to see these rumors showing up as the top 20 results when she searched her name on the Internet. She explained that it is difficult to reach out to friends due to the situation.

As Chris Harrison engaged in the conversation, it seemed obvious that his reactions (not to mention Anna’s apology) were forced and phony. During this conversation, the host was noticeably quiet. In the other conversations that he initiated during the episode, he was much more involved, showing a lot of empathy for the other womens' feelings. He contributed short and generic comments about what Brittany had been through, and her emotional pain is something that shouldn't be downplayed.

When given the opportunity to speak, Anna Redman (who went silent on Instagram after she was sent home), gave an apology that came off as very insincere. Brittany shared that she was disappointed by the lack of support from Anna after the episode aired. Brittany heard that Anna continued to spread rumors even after the show wrapped. Anna may have been was trying to tell viewers what they wanted to hear, rather than expressing genuine remorse.

Chris Harrison offered very few words, aside from noting that the rumor was one of the craziest he has heard during the show’s history. Overall, he was rather brief and vague. The other women in the episode seemed more involved in the conversation. In fact, it could be argued that they asked better questions than the host did.

At the end of the conversation, Brittany’s disappointment with the conversation showed. She will be defending her name for the rest of her life, which is certainly not an easy thing to do. Between the lack of support from Chris (who continues earning cash on Cameo despite stepping down for the time being) and Anna’s weak apology, the conversation was just uncomfortable and didn't resolve anything.
