Big Brother: The 10 Most Boring Veto Challenges, Ranked

A big part of living in the Big Brother house is competing in competitions, from Head of Household (HoH) to reward challenges and, of course, the Veto challenge. That competition, often one of the most important of each episode, confirms who has the power to veto one of the nominations by the HoH. Big Brother has featured plenty of Veto competitions over the years, including many that are recurring ones. Some have become fan – and player – favorites, like OTEV, BB Comics, and Hide and Go Veto. While others aren't really that exciting.

Some of the many competition games require a lot of brainpower and others are mostly about physical ability. But the best Veto competitions ensure that, in order to win, players have to possess a combination of both physical skills and clever smarts.

10 Knight Moves

For those who like chess, this game might not seem all that boring. But just like chess, it's all about strategy. It's a very low-key, quiet game of cat and mouse as players slowly chase one another around a massive game board, moving only in specific patterns. Flip a tile when you land on it and that means it's off-limits for the rest of the game.

The idea of the game, which appeared in Big Brother 3, 6, 16, and All-Stars season 22 where Kaysar Ridha, who played it masterfully returned to host the competition, is that eventually, someone will get blocked in and will have no more moves left. The last person left standing wins. If The Queen's Gambit proved anything, perhaps people do love watching others concentrating on an intense game of chess. But on Big Brother, the competition isn’t quite as entertaining.

9 Bowlerina

There is an element of fun in this competition, but it mainly stems from seeing all of the contestants wear tights and tutus. But once the competition is underway, it's not all that exciting.

The premise is that they must spin around and around until a barrier is lowered so they can bowl a ball and knock down pins. Naturally, after spinning rapidly for a good 30 or so seconds, most people lose their balance. It's fun to see them topple over, but viewers quickly figure out after the first round who can keep their balance and who can't, making it obvious who the likely winner will be. Bowlerina is a fairly new Veto competition, having appeared in Big Brother 15, 17, and 19 as well as Celebrity Big Brother 1 and with a football theme in Celebrity Big Brother 2.

8 Hourglass

In this competition, players must stack objects to solve a puzzle while also keeping an eye on their timer and resetting it before it runs out so they can keep going. There's a lot of running back and forth, falling puzzles, and re-building involved as players try to keep track of both building and time at once.

This fairly new competition only appeared twice, in seasons 19 and 21. But it is a variation of Giddy Up, which has appeared in seasons 16, 18, 20, 22, and Celebrity Big Brother.

7 Big Top Drop

Appearing as a Veto as well as Head of Household and re-entry competition, players must run back and forth, trying to drop their balls through a tube to land them in the highest numbers of a large wheel that resembles the one on Wheel of Fortune.

Because players can reach over the top of the fence, the competition appears to offer an advantage to those who are taller and have longer arms. Bottom line: it doesn't seem fair. Nonetheless, the game has appeared four times, in seasons 4, 11, 19, and 20.

6 BB Storm Watch

This one can be fun to watch but in terms of competition, it's pretty boring. Players dress up like newscasters then have to learn and recall a storm newscast while they are enduring a simulated storm, complete with rain, high winds, and flying objects.

It's not surprising that this Veto competition has only appeared twice, in seasons 18 and 19. Both times, Paul Abrahamian, one of the best players to never win the game, won the competition.

5 An Offer You Can't Refuse

This isn't some intense mobster movie nor is it the game show Deal or No Deal. So, this competition really had no place in the Big Brother world. In it, each participating houseguest is offered temptations to drop out of the Veto competition. The first person to accept gets the reward. The other houseguests are punished and the competition is over.

The competition was first seen in Big Brother 2 when Bunky chose $5,000 in exchange for everyone else having to eat only peanut butter and jelly for four days. In season three, Danielle Reyes won. It showed up again in Big Brother 4 but the competition hasn't been seen since, and for good reason.

4 Ice Ice Veto

The name screams corny, and so was this competition. Rather, it could be likened to watching paint dry. Except instead of paint, it was ice. And instead of watching it dry, fans got to watch the players slowly chip away at blocks of ice to release various objects.

This competition appeared once in season 5, and while it did also return in the sixth season of Big Brother Canada (many other competitions, it should be noted, also appear on the Canadian version of the show), it hasn't been seen since.

3 Ball Roll

It's like watching two kids endlessly go back and forth on a seesaw. This competition requires that each player roll a ball through a long tube-like structure, run to the other end to catch it before it falls, and continue going back and forth. If the ball drops, you're out.

The competition has shown up five times on the American version of the show, first in season 13 when fan-favorite player Jeff Schroeder won and last in season 20, won by Angela Rummans. Viewers get tired not to mention dizzy watching the players go back and forth, over and over again.

2 Golf Invitational

One by one, the players enter the backyard and hit a golf ball into the green. The idea is to try and get a hole in one. If you don’t, the ball will land in a spot with a specific numerical score. Decide to keep that score or putt again for a second chance, but you have to go with that number, for better or worse.

It's a pretty boring competition yet has returned quite a few times. It was first seen in season 5, then in season 7, 11, 13, and, most recently, in the All-Stars season 22 when Cody Calafiore won. It was also in Celebrity Big Brother, won by Ariadna Gutierrez.

1 Caged Eggs

Not only is this competition the most boring to watch, but it's also an endurance competition that makes viewers wait until the following episode to find out who won. Little by little, players navigate a fragile egg through a wire cage, moving it all the way to the top until they can get their hands fully on it and place it in the destination. They don't do this once but multiple times to win. If the egg falls, cracks, or breaks, it's time to start all over again with a new one.

This game isn't just boring for fans to watch, it's also pretty boring and monotonous for players. Nonetheless, it's one of the competitions that keeps coming back again and again. It was first won by Kevin Campbell in season 11 as a Power of Veto competition, then returned for seasons 12, 15, 16, 17, 18, and 21, but as a Head of Household competition instead.
