Samantha Who? starred Christina Applegate as Samantha Newly, a woman who was struck by a car and wakes up from a coma to find she has amnesia. The series ran for two seasons on ABC from 2007-2009. Samantha gradually adapts to life after her accident, and she finds that she despises the person she used to be, and sets out to better her life and to make amends with those around her.
It's not without its obstacles, awkward moments, or challenges, but Samantha makes things look quite funny and entertaining from time to time, depending on the episode.
10 "The Birthday" (7.5)
Sam insists that Todd break up with Chloe before they continue their relationship. However, Todd remains with Chloe upon finding out she has a sick relative, but Sam has her doubts about the truth of it and investigates. Sam being in the wrong place at the wrong time leads Chloe to believe that Sam is trying to be there for her, and it places Sam in an awkward position.
Meanwhile, Andrea (played by Blue Bloods' Jennifer Esposito) and Regina (played by Hawaii Five-0's Jean Smart) fight to host Samantha's upcoming birthday party and end up bonding.
9 "The Break-Up" (7.5)
Sam sleeps with Kevin and finds herself falling for him, but it's too soon for Kevin to handle, and he ends their relationship. Sam ends up broken-hearted and a tad obsessed with Kevin but learns from her mistake.
Sam also tries to give her assistant more freedom and show her more kindness, but it gets out of hand when her assistant takes it too far and disregards Sam's requests at work, forcing Sam to take a different approach.
8 "The Car" (7.5)
Sam wants her father to trust her and convinces him to let her borrow the car. She goes for a ride with her friend Dena (Melissa McCarthy) and the two get into an accident. Sam panics and decides to sink the car and make her father believe the car was stolen but comes clean to her mother out of guilt.
Her mother blackmails her into helping her, but Sam remembers just in time that her mother did the same thing to her car, and decides to come clean to her father, who takes the news better than she had anticipated.
7 "The Virgin" (7.6)
Sam realizes she doesn't remember sex and endures a particularly awkward conversation with her mother before turning to her friends. The conversation with her mother turns into a fight between her parents as Regina reveals her husband wasn't her "first time."
Andrea tries to rush Sam into bed with a guy to experience sex, but Sam has trouble following through, wanting it to be with someone special.
6 "The Other Woman" (7.6)
Samantha's past catches up with her once again when she's at an event and runs into her boss Winston Funk and his ex-wife Gigi, played by Angie Harmon. Samantha is then swept up in a whirlwind of events as she apologizes to Gigi for breaking them up, then tries to help her get back together with Winston, and finally ends up becoming the "other woman" once again.
To complicate things further, Sam remembers in this episode that Gigi was the one driving the car that hit her, and major karma strikes back when Sam accidentally hits Gigi with her car.
5 "The Job" (7.7)
In the series' second episode, Samantha finds out what she does for a living--and dislikes it greatly. She finds her assistant is terrified of her, she used to be quite brutal and cold, and her co-workers, thanks to her friend Andrea, believe that she's been away at rehab instead of in a coma.
Samantha plans to quit and start her life anew, but her plans are put to a sad halt when she learns she has to keep her job, given she's in debt.
4 "The Boss" (7.8)
Samantha has her work cut out for her when she tackles one problem after another. She tries to get Todd to return her phone calls, but her attempts to connect with him hit the back burner (at least until the episode's conclusion) when her boss Winston, played by Timothy Olyphant, makes an appearance and asks her to marry him.
Sam has no memory of their affair, and though she tries to steer him towards Andrea, who harbors feelings for him, he is persistent and even asks her father for her hand in marriage. Andrea, angered by Sam's apparent betrayal given her affair with Winston, declares she's done with Sam, but Sam's not done yet--she makes an effort to repair their friendship before it's too late.
3 "The Gallery Show" (7.8)
Samantha, though initially hesitant, accepts Todd's invitation to check out his exhibit, but faces a few problems. Chloe isn't happy with Todd for inviting her to begin with. Sam's parents recognize their daughter in a revealing picture, and her father decides to keep people from seeing it.
Sam realizes her date (Jerry O'Connell) to the gallery is a thief and has stolen her purse before, but the memory doesn't surface until they're actually at the event. She initially tries to get rid of him, until she learns he no longer steals, but ultimately fails to trust him.
2 "The Pill" (8.1)
Sam participates in a clinical trial and takes a pill meant to improve her memory, but becomes overwhelmed by the memories that return, as they depict many moments of Sam being bad. That is, until her memory uncovers the fact that Todd had proposed to her.
She desperately tries to reach Todd to talk things over, but due to the pills, she forgets before she can tell him.
1 "With This Ring" (8.2)
Dena accidentally lets it slip to Sam's boss, Chapman, that Sam has amnesia, and it makes Chapman wonder if anything "really matters", as it troubles him that Sam did her job without knowing anything about it. Sam is pushed into a corner as it's reached the point where she has to choose between Winston Funk and Todd.
Andrea, meanwhile, excitedly prepares for her wedding day but finds herself swept off her feet by another man. Sam's parents struggle to maintain their connection, the series finale ending on a cliffhanger as Sam's mother moves in with Sam and Todd, who are newly engaged.
