Harry Potter: 5 Hogwarts Subjects/Activities Pisces Would Excel In (& 5 They Would Fail)
Pisces is a water sign, represented by two fish, so it's too bad Care of Magical Creatures doesn't make it down to the Black Lake very often. Pisces are known for being very empathetic, artistic, and imaginative, they are also known for being impressionable, emotional, and sometimes closed off.
While Pisces could end up as members of any house at Hogwarts, they are likely to find success in many of the same subjects, no matter what colors they wear on their robes. So let's explore a few places Pisces might find the most success, and a few places they would be likely to struggle at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
10 Excel - Charms
Pisces are known for being artistic and imaginative, and charms is one of the few classes where they might be able to exercise a few of those muscles.
Charms is often looked down upon because the magic required isn't as exacting as that of transfiguration, but that's where much of the nuance and success in the subject comes in. Pisces would be particularly well placed to find great success under Professor Flitwick during their time at Hogwarts school.
9 Fail - Defence Against the Dark Arts
Pisces are both impressionable and emotional, and that might not be the best combination if one is looking to be successful at Defence Against the Dark Arts.
Imagine what a Pisces would have thought watching one of "imposter" Moody's classes, where he shows off the unforgivable curses. Either they would be brought to tears or they would be intrigued by the power on display. Either way, it would not be a great class for a Pisces to spend a lot of time in.
8 Excel - Divination
Pisces are known for being the most empathetic of the signs, and thus would be great at divination. Divination isn't all about being able to read the signs, but about being able to read people, and no one is better than a Pisces.
This empathy coupled with the emotional side of a Pisces would also mean that a Pisces would be not only in tune with another person, but in tune with the world around them. Divination is one of the more introspective subjects taught at Hogwarts, and Pisces would be likely to succeed.
7 Fail - Potions
Potions is a "subtle science and exact art," and the imagination inherent in most Pisces is likely to cause a few problems in that particular arena.
Perhaps a change here or there would be likely to lead to greater success in a specific potion but, overall, it's unlikely that changes to recipes would leak to top marks in the subject. A Pisces who is unable to stretch themselves artistically may struggle under the exacting thumb of potion making.
6 Excel - Music
The frog choir, under the tutelage of Professor Flitwick, is likely full of Pisceans. Pisces are known for being both imaginative and artistic, and music is one of the few areas where they would be able to flex these muscles at Hogwarts.
Apparently Flitwick is one of the best teachers for any Pisces, as he leads both Charms and Music, two subjects where most Pisces are likely to find success. Luna Lovegood, a member of Flitwick's house or Ravenclaw, is herself a Pisces.
5 Fail - Quidditch
Pisces are unlikely to be overwhelmingly represented on the quidditch pitch. The imaginative and emotional nature of Pisces is unlikely to make them great team players.
Focusing in practice would be a bit more difficult for Pisces in general, and their emotions might lead to a bit more conflict on the team that is necessary, or healthy. Like Luna herself, Pisces are more likely to be in the stands analyzing the game than actually playing it.
4 Excel - Care of Magical Creatures
Pisces empathic abilities are likely to pay off in Care of Magical Creatures. Being able to sense an animal's mood is likely to be even more helpful than simply following the book instructions on how to approach magical creatures.
The emotional side of a Pisces is also likely to lead to a great deal of attention and care being offered to animals presented to the class. Look at how Luna got along with the thestrals in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix for a clear example of Pisces success with animals.
3 Fail - Transfiguration
The same traits that would lead to success in Care of Magical Creatures would mean that Pisces are likely to struggle in Transfiguration. The imaginative nature of many Pisces would lead to some struggles in Transfiguration, the same way it would lead to Pisces students struggling in Potions.
Transfiguration lacks the leeway and creativity that is often allowed in other magical subjects, which would lead to a little bit of struggle for many Pisces.
2 Excel - Community Service
Fans may not see it, but it would be hard to believe that Hogwarts didn't have any community service offerings at all. Students must, at some point, offer their services, perhaps at St. Mungos, or by collecting pillowcases for house elves.
Pisces are both very generous and very impressionable, meaning many of them are likely to be enthusiastic community service volunteers during their time at school.
1 Fail - Herbology
Again, Pisces are imaginative and emotional, this might lead to a few problems in Herbology class. To keep magical plants alive very exact care is needed, which a Pisces may stray away from.
Their emotions might also lead them to refuse to say, re-pot a crying mandrake, even if trying to hold the hollering plant would lead to their passing out or getting bitten.
