Man allegedly sexually abused child while on bail

Ashley Junoir Doolan, 23 of Penrith appeared at Penrith Local Court via video link charged one count of having sexual intercourse with and sexually touching a child under the age of 14.The court heard the alleged victim in the matter was an 11-year-old girl, whom Doolan is alleged to have had sexual intercourse with in the girl’s home on May 9.It was also heard, the girl’s brother walked in when the alleged abuse was taking place and ran to tell his mother. The girl, the girl’s mother and brother all gave statements to the police “immediately after” the alleged offending occurred, which strengthened the prosecution’s case.Amid the fresh charges police have successfully applied for Doolan to be placed back behind bars on remand, with the prosecutor telling the court there was a “low necessity” for Doolan “to be free”.“Given the facts, the nature of the offending there are no bail conditions which can mitigate the risk to victims and the community,” he said.A lawyer appearing for Doolan, told the court her client had “strong community ties and family support” with his mother, grandmother and partner present in court to support him.Doolan’s lawyer, however was unsuccessful in her attempts to keep her client at liberty, with Magistrate Fiona Toose accepting the police position to him Doolan placed back in remand. It is alleged the most recent string of charges occurred while Doolan was on bail, awaiting sentencing after pleading guilty to one count of stalk/intimidate and sexually touch a person without consent. Doolan will remain in custody on remand, he has yet to enter any pleas and the matters will return to court at a later date.
