Clarendon man Luke Basil Latham was brought from custody into the Hobart Magistrates Court where his lawyer gave an update to Magistrate Glenn Hay.Latham is alleged to have stolen the FIND Contemporary Jewellery Collective and nearby Rani Baker Jewellery in two separate heists late last year. Police allege Latham stole bespoke and handcrafted jewellery from the stores. He was arrested on December 29, 2022, after a separate alleged burglary at Coles, Sandy Bay. On that occasion he is alleged to have stolen $1000 of tobacco products.He is further alleged to have stolen $2300 of groceries from multiple supermarkets, $994 worth of Versace sunglasses from Sunglass Hut and $225 worth of perfume from Myer, and $2499 worth of jackets from Kathmandu.In court, his lawyer said Latham had entered pleas to several charges already. A plea of not guilty had been entered on a charge of destroy property, and pleas of not guilty were also entered for three other charges which were not read to the court. His lawyer said they had recently received a “large amount” of disclosure from police relating to charges which included 13 counts of stealing, one count of stealing with force, three counts of burglary, one count each of breach of bail and possess a controlled drug, and two counts of use a controlled drug. They said time would be needed to review the disclosure and to take instructions from Latham, before he entered his final plea. Latham, who is currently in custody over the current charges as well as serving a sentence, was remanded in custody.His matter will be mentioned again in June.NED-7429 Mercury Banner
