‘Acting like a d..khead’: Teen’s hit-n-run on drunk man

Cameron Gore, 21, of Summerland Point, has pleaded guilty to failing to stop and assist after a collision and negligent driving occasioning grievous bodily harm nearly two years after the incident at Gwandalan on November 23, 2020.An agreed set of facts states Gore, who was 19 at the time, was driving his green Nissan Patrol along Summerland Rd, at Summerland Point, with his girlfriend about 7pm when a Suzuki Swift coming the opposite direction crossed in front of his 4WD.Gore had to swerve left and stop to avoid hitting the Suzuki and the vehicles passed each other. The Suzuki pulled over to the side of the road and the 25-year-old driver got out as Gore did a U-turn and started heading back past the Swift. The driver of the Suzuki yelled “what’s your problem?” before getting back into his car and following Gore as he turned onto Kanangra Drive.The Suzuki caught up to Gore and the driver threw a 750ml beer bottle at his 4WD, which smashed on the ground and again yelled at him “what’s your problem?”.The two vehicles kept travelling and Gore ended up behind the Suzuki as the vehicles travelled along Imga St, Gwandalan.The Suzuki driver again stopped and got out of the car.The facts state witnesses could hear two males yelling at each other along the lines “f..k you, you f..king dog”.“The offender by his pleas accepts that he negligently struck the victim with his bulbar as he drove past the victim who was on the roadway at the time of the collision and he also negligently struck the driver’s side rear vision mirror of the vehicle,” the facts state.“The victim fell to the ground and the offender drove from the location without stopping”.The Suzuki driver was helped by onlookers until paramedics arrived and took him to John Hunter Hospital where he underwent surgery to have a metal rod and screws inserted into his shattered right femur.A blood sample was taken at hospital and the man recorded a blood alcohol reading of 0.152. Triage notes at the hospital state he was hit at "low speed”.“Patient states he had argument with other driver. Got out of his car walked in front of 4WD when the 4WD hit him,” the notes state.A witness told police he recognised the 4WD as belonging to Gore.Officers went around to his house in Summerland Point and found the Nissan Patrol parked in the driveway.It was seized for forensic investigation along with the Suzuki.“A forensic examination of the Swift revealed damage to the rear driver’s side door consistent with an impact with a pedestrian,” the facts state.Gore attended Wyong Police Station where he was interviewed and told police the other driver had swerved in front of him.He said the other driver had his arm hanging out of the window and was “acting like a complete d..khead”.He said his 4WD stalled and then he chased him until the victim threw a beer at him. Gore told officers at some point he entered Imga St and found himself behind the Suzuki and it stopped suddenly, with the driver getting out and approaching his vehicle “running or walking quickly”.“I tried to get around him but I think I hit his door,” Gore told officers.He said he was going to go straight to Toukley to report the incident but was “tired, in shock” and “needed to sleep” so he went home instead. Gore will be sentenced on Thursday.
