A candle-light vigil and protest was held in front of Erbil Citadel, Iraq, on Thursday July 21, for those killed and injured in artillery strikes, allegedly carried out by Turkey, in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq on Wednesday, July 20. Video posted by Twitter user Ahmed Alamer shows candles lit as people sing and wave posters in support of the civilians recently killed and injured in northern Iraq. Local news said there have been several protests against the deadly airstrike in front of Turkish diplomatic missions in Iraq since July 20. At least nine people, including three children, were killed in strikes on a resort in the Zakho District in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq on Wednesday, media outlets reported. Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi accused Turkey of carrying out the attack, and said, “Iraq reserves the full right to respond to these attacks and will take all necessary measures to protects its people and hold the aggressors accountable for the ongoing escalation."
