GotG Game's Cosmo the Dog Is Adorable In Behind the Scenes Photos

Behind-the-scenes photos from Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy game show the four-legged actor who provided the performance work for Cosmo. Not only is Cosmo adorable in the GotG game, but his real-life motion capture artist is just as precious seen dressed in the full motion-capture gear used for the upcoming release.

Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy is fast approaching its October 26 launch date and developer Eidos-Montréal is providing fans with everything they need to know about the game with developer insights, trailers, and more. The title will offer a new spin on the famous Guardians, following neither the comic book nor the Marvel Cinematic Universe versions of the crew. Instead, Marvel fans will get to experience a fresh take on the characters, with an all-new story reaching across the cosmos. Players will take on the role of Guardians of the Galaxy's Star-Lord in an action-packed third-person adventure.

As part of a partnership between Marvel Games and viral dog fan account WeRateDogs, new photos from the set of Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy show off Cosmo's actor in action. Named Diego, the canine star is seen fitted in a state-of-the-art motion capture suit used to accurately capture and record realistic dog movements for Cosmo. The behind-the-scenes snaps were shared alongside stills from the upcoming game, comparing Diego to the finished Cosmo players will meet at launch. The original post was shared by Marvel Games' Eric Monacelli, who thanked the game's developers and marketers for "making this happen."

The WeRateDogs post offers another look at what Cosmo will look like in-game, with two images showing the telepathic character's dual sides as both a force to be reckoned with and a dog who'll happily chase his own tail. Cosmo serves as the security chief of the Knowhere space station, and despite his cute exterior, this is one pup not to be messed with. Cosmo and his puppies were recently spotlighted in a new GotG cinematic trailer, showing off a tense yet hilarious exchange between Star-Lord, Rocket, and the Soviet dog himself. Cosmo's full role in the Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy game isn't yet clear, but the pooch is likely to be a favorite among players.

Video game studios have been recruiting canine actors to help accurately portray in-game dogs for a long time now. As well as hiring dogs for performance capture, four-legged friends have also helped to provide game sound effects, with Halo Infinite famously using a pug named Gyoza to create the upcoming release's alien noises. Dogs have also been used for motion capture in games like The Last of Us Part 2, while Fallout 4's dog companion Dogmeat was inspired by a real German Shepherd named River, who sadly passed away earlier this year.
