First look: Plans for 1500-student western Sydney school revealed

The massive new school, which is proposed for an expansive 9500sq m site at 7-11 Burroway Rd, Wentworth Park, is expected to be surrounded by future mixed-use residential developments and the proposed peninsula park. A planner for the project said the stage one development would provide for a “Stream 5 high school, catering for up to 850 students”. While stage two will bring the school up to a stream 9 school capability catering up to 1530 students.“The design features a six storey building with two wings, one along the southernboundary and one along the eastern boundary,” the planner revealed. “A two-storey hall building (for sports and performance) is also proposed in the northern portion of the site. The play space required to meet the need of students for stage one can be generally accommodated onsite, within the 9,511 sqm available. Additional play space may be required to accommodate the increased student numbers anticipated during stage two.”Planners forecast more than 500 construction jobs would be developed from the multimillion-dollar project, while a further 80 operation staff and teachers would be employed once the school opens. A School Infrastructure planner said the new school was being developed to “cater for the growing population in the Sydney Olympic Park, Concord West and Wentworth Point communities”.The 1500-student school, designed by Roberts Co. is expected to start construction mid next year, while completion isn’t expected until late 2023. You can have your say on the plans until November 10, here.
