Marvel's Spider-Man 2 Fans Want To Visit Villains Like In Arkham Knight

A fan recently suggested that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 allow players to transport Spidey’s enemies to prison, just like Batman gets to do in 2015’s Batman: Arkham Knight. The conclusion to Rocksteady’s critically acclaimed series of Batman games may have been met with a mixed reception regarding its implementation of the Caped Crusader’s iconic Batmobile, but one touch players agreed upon was allowing the Dark Knight to drive fallen bosses to the GCPD, where he can have conversations with them afterward.

Meanwhile, Insomniac finally answered nearly three years of fan speculation by unveiling the long-awaited sequel to the 2018 blockbuster superhero title Marvel’s Spider-Man at the PlayStation Showcase earlier this month. During the exciting Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 trailer, web-slinging crimefighters Peter Parker and Miles Morales work together to take down enemies amid the darkened New York City streets, only to come across a brand-new terror as Venom emerges from the shadows. This appearance of the villain finally pays off the fact that he was teased in the previous two Insomniac Spider-Man games. Fans are expecting the usual fine-tuning for Insomniac's already suburb travel and combat gameplay in the new game, and some are speculating that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 could work in some sort of co-op play involving Peter, Miles, and even Venom. Others still are asking Spidey to take a page from Batman for his next gaming adventure.

As reported by Game Rant, Reddit user daredevilman999 posted a suggestion about Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 to r/SpidermanPS4 yesterday. They think that in the next Spider-Man game, Peter and Miles should have the ability to carry supervillains to jail, just like Batman does in Batman: Arkham Knight. From there, the two Spider-Men would be able to visit their fallen foes in lock-up, which daredevilman999 says would help motivate players to complete Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and allow for some fun Easter Eggs involving the villains’ dialogue as they seethe from behind bars.

Not everyone commenting on daredevilman999’s post thinks this would work, as while it may make for a fun gameplay mechanic in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, it might not fit in with Spider-Man as a character. Unlike Batman, who maintains a good working relationship with the Gotham City Police Department, Spidey is largely distrusted by law enforcement in the Marvel Universe. This might also ring true in Insomniac’s budding Marvel gaming universe, as Spider-Man’s only real ally among the NYPD in Marvel’s Spider-Man, Captain Yuri Watanabe, ultimately turns against him at the end of Marvel's Spider-Man's The City That Never Sleeps DLC.

This would make implementing a feature like Batman: Arkham Knight’s ability to transport supervillains to prison and chat with them later on in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 difficult, but it would certainly be fun to see Peter or Miles pop in for a cordial visit with beaten foes like Kraven The Hunter in between missions. Fans will have to wait a while to see what Insomniac has in store with its next superhero sandbox adventure, as Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 isn't going to release until at least 2023.
