Everybody's Talking About Jamie Soundtrack: Every Song Explained

Warning: SPOILERS for Everybody's Talking About Jamie

The biographical musical movie Everybody's Talking About Jamie includes a fun, upbeat soundtrack -- here's an explanation guide to every song. Based on a true story, the film is based on a stage musical that was adapted from the BBC Three documentary Jamie: Drag Queen at 16. Directed by Jonathan Butterell, Everybody's Talking About Jamie is about sixteen-year-old Jamie New (Max Harwood) who dreams of becoming a drag queen.

Jamie does not fit in at his high school and his only friend is his classmate Pritti Pasha (Lauren Patel). His mother Margaret New (Sarah Lancashire) is very supportive of his drag queen dream, unlike his hateful father (Ralph Ineson) who wants nothing to do with him. Jamie also finds support from Hugo Battersby, played by Richard E. Grant who previously appeared in Loki, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, and many others.

Everybody's Talking About Jamie seeks to inspire young viewers to love their true selves by telling the true story of Jamie Campbell. The soundtrack reflects this uplifting message with motivational songs about the characters' hopes and dreams. The movie adaptation removed 7 songs from the original musical and added one new song called "This Was Me," which pays tribute to the AIDS crisis, Singer Freddie Mercury's death, and embracing one's sexuality in the '80s and '90s. Here's every song in Everybody's Talking About Jamie and where they appear in the film.

"Everything" by Becky Hill - "Everything" plays during the opening credits as Jamie starts his day delivering mail.

"Don't Even Know It" by Max Harwood & Original Album Cast - Jamie sings "Don't Even Know It" while daydreaming in class as his teacher Miss Hedge (Sharon Horgan) asks about students' future plans. Jamie imagines himself performing.

"Over The Top" by Original Album Cast - "Over The Top" plays while Hugo encourages Jamie to go through with his first drag show, even though he knows the bully Dean Paxton (Samuel Bottomley) is in the audience. The other drag queens sing the song again during Jamie's show.

"Kiss the Sun" by Beverly Night - Jamie's drag persona, Mimi Me, lip syncs "Kiss The Sun" for her drag performance.
