Although the console was discontinued in 2013 and the online services ended in 2019, the Wii has remained a significant part of video game history. Even as new consoles arrive, there are plenty of great Wii games that everyone should still try.

10 Fragile Dreams: Farewell Ruins of the Moon

Released in 2009 by Bandai Namco, Fragile Dreams: Farewell Ruins of the Moon is an action RPG that takes place in a post-apocalyptic Tokyo. The game follows a 15-year-old boy named Seto who explores the ruins of the city while fighting ghosts and other enemies in order to find other survivors.

While the game uses some survivor horror tropes and mechanics, the game is less a horror game and more a surreal exploration of humanity. As Seto slowly uncovers what caused the catastrophe, the player will traverse through many aesthetically beautiful environments and discover memories from people who died. This creates a gorgeously somber experience that will be unforgettable.

9 Animal Crossing: City Folk

One of the best-selling games on the Wii is Animal Crossing: City Folk, which is the 2008 installment of the beloved life simulation series Animal Crossing. Similarly to other games in the franchise, players control a human character who lives in a small town along with anthropomorphic animals. Since the game is open-ended, players can choose to spend their time however they like, which includes participating in activities such as fishing and collecting items.

Even though this game is extremely similar to previous installments, it does have a couple of new aspects including the city area that players can visit for new items and activities. For fans of these games, this iteration will not disappoint.

8 Silent Hill: Shattered Memories

Created by British developer Climax Studios, Silent Hill: Shattered Memories is a 2009 survival horror game that is a reimagining of the original Silent Hill game. The main character, Harry Mason, is once again on a quest to find his daughter Cheryl in the titular town of Silent Hill. Over the course of the game, the perspective switches between the first-person view of therapy sessions and the third-person view of Harry exploring Silent Hill.

As the game that inspired many modern horror games, this game is considered to be one of the better Silent Hill games. Later games like P.T. would mimic the game's use of the player's own psychology to create a scarier experience. Meanwhile, the well-known title Until Dawn has the same mixture of first-person therapy sessions and third-person survival horror gameplay.

7 WarioWare: Smooth Moves

The first Mario game to be released on the Wii was the 2006 party game WarioWare: Smooth Moveswhich is the fifth game in the WarioWare series. The player controls Sonic as he traverses through Dr. Eggman's "Incredible Interstellar Amusement Park" in order to save an alien race called Wisps. As the game switches between side-scrolling and third-person perspectives, the player must overcome obstacles and defeat various robots.

Along with the incredible visuals, the game is also known for introducing Wisps to the franchise. Later entries in the series continued to use Wisp power-ups and Wisps as characters.

5 Super Smash Bros. Brawl

As one of the best-selling Wii games, the 2008 award-winning Super Smash Bros. Brawl is one of the most significant games in the Super Smash Brosseries. This crossover fighting game once again featured characters from several different game series as they try to defeat each other by forcing characters off the screen.

But, this game introduced several gameplay options that would remain in future titles, such as third-party characters, online battles, and a more extensive single-player mode. Also, the game can be played using multiple types of controllers along with the Wii Controller.

4 Xenoblade Chronicles

Xenoblade Chronicles is the award-winning first entry of the modern subseries of the Xeno metaseries. This 2010 open-world science fiction action RPG centers around a long-time conflict between the human-like race Homs and the machine race Machina. After the protagonist, Shulk, gains a powerful weapon known as the Monado and sees his childhood friend, Fiora, killed by the antagonist Metal Face, he goes on a journey to avenge her and defeat the Mechon army.

With the extensive open-world and real-time battle system, Xenoblade Chronicles is seen as one of the main games that transitioned JRPGs to the modern era. The unique premise and departure from the typical RPG plotline breathed new life into this old genre.

3 Super Paper Mario

Released in 2007, Super Paper Mario is the third installment of the Paper Mario franchise, and it introduces gameplay mechanics that would become lasting aspects of the series. Along with being nominated for and winning awards, this game is also the best-selling Paper Mario game.

Released in 2011, the game follows Link as he leaves the floating town, Skyloft, in order to rescue Zelda, who has been taken to the abandoned world below.

While the game is linear, the game was the precursor to the open-world RPG The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and many areas from this game even reappeared in Breath of the Wild. The game's beautiful world, music, and life-like environment led it to win many awards.

1 Super Mario Galaxy

As the first Nintendo title to win a BAFTA award along with many other awards, Super Mario Galaxy is a 2007 platform adventure game that is often considered one of the greatest video games of all time. This third game in the 3D Mario subgenre has the player control either Mario or Luigi as they collect Power Stars across multiple planets in order to stop Bowser from destroying the universe.
