New Resident Evil Village PC Patch Will Do More To Fix Performance

Capcom has confirmed a new PC patch for Resident Evil Village, which is set to improve the game's performance even further. Resident Evil Village released earlier this year and has quickly become one of the most successful Resident Evil games, receiving high praise for its story, combat, and graphics. However, some players have been concerned over its PC performance, which has led to patches from the game's developer.

The latest addition to the beloved horror series came under scrutiny this July, two months after its release, when it was revealed that the game wasn't functioning as well as it could on PC. Despite favorable reviews of the game at launch, Steam players began to report problems with the game's performance. Many experienced frame rate drops during their playthroughs, which were particularly noticeable during cutscenes and enemy encounters. An investigation into the Resident Evil Village performance issues revealed that the game's Denuvo DRM anti-piracy technology could be the culprit, which led Capcom to seek solutions for its PC players.

Capcom announced Resident Evil Village's latest update on Twitter, revealing that the performance patch will go live on August 10. The patch notes for the update are small, with Capcom simply confirming that "internal processing will be improved to optimize performance," and that there will be "minor fine-tuning to FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR)." The patch is aimed at PC Steam users, who should find that FSR works better following its release.

The new PC patch comes just weeks after a July Resident Evil update which also aimed to improve the game's overall performance. Following the patch, Capcom confirmed that FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) from AMD is now supported, meaning the game can now target higher frame rates on PC Steam than its initially released version. The game's anti-piracy technology was also optimized by the patch, with the aim of halting frame rate hitches some PC players were previously experiencing.

Whether or not Capcom will be releasing any further game patches isn't clear, but the developer of Resident Evil Village is already hard at work on its next project. Earlier this summer it was confirmed that Resident Evil Village DLC is in the works, though details on the additional content haven't yet been announced. Players could get to experience more adventures of protagonist Ethan Winters when it arrives, though it's also possible gamers will be playing as Chris Redfield. While nothing is known about the new content, many are hopeful to see more of Resident Evil Village's Four Lords through DLC.
